One key element missing from Paramount+'s upcoming iCarly revival is Jennette McCurdy, who played Sam Puckett in the original Nickelodeon series. According to Miranda Cosgrove, this is something that will be addressed very early on in the revival.

"Definitely, we touch a lot on the whole relationship with Sam and where Sam's at in the pilot episode," Cosgrove told EW. "And then we mention her a little bit throughout the season, so we'll definitely explain that on the show."

Although she played Sam throughout the original run of iCarly and worked on numerous projects after that, McCurdy publicly quit acting in 2017 and doubled down on her decision in early 2021.

Premiering in September 2007, iCarly centers on Carly, a teenage girl who lives with her older brother Spencer and hosts a web show with her friend Sam that's filmed by her other friend Freddy. The series ran for six seasons, ending in November 2012. However, while critics were lukewarm on iCarly, the show was a major hit with audiences, winning numerous Kids' Choice Awards.

The new iCarly will pick up nearly 10 years after Nickelodeon's original show ended, and finds Carly Shay, the original influencer, and her friends navigating work, love, and family in their twenties.

iCarly stars Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, Jerry Trainor, Laci Mosley and Jaidyn Triplett. The series premieres June 17 on Paramount+.
