Following a successful weekend at the box office, Paramount Pictures is already looking beyond G.I. Joe: Retaliation to a third installment in the action franchise, Variety reports. The sequel earned the top spot for the weekend earning $132 million worldwide.

Retaliation has the potential to outdo G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which had a bigger budget than the sequel. Part of the reason the movie pulled in more cash is thanks to the 3D up-conversion that delayed the film's release for nine months. Expect the third installment to also be in 3D, though whether it will be shot that way or converted remains to be seen.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Lee Byung-hun, RZA, Walton Goggins, Elodie Yung and Ray Stevenson. The film was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick of Zombieland fame.
