Explorers, the 1985 film that introduced Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix to the world, is about to be subjected to the Hollywood-remake treatment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures' Insurgence label is spearheading a new take on Explorers, with Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec producing. They've selected Geoff Moore and Dave Posamentier as their writers; the duo wrote and directed the upcoming Better Living Through Chemistry, but as of now, they are only writing the Explorers remake, not directing it.

The original film focuses on three teenagers who are inspired by science fiction movies to create a spaceship of their own. They use the ship, called Thunder Road, to travel to far-off galaxies. Explorers was directed by Joe Dante, the same man behind Gremlins.
