It might be time to start chanting "turtle power!" once again. It has just been revealed that Paramount is developing a reboot of its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cinematic franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that writer Andrew Dodge has been tapped to pen the script of the new film, which will be a new departure for the heroes in a half shell following the disappointing reception of the 2014 film Ninja Turtles and its 2016 sequel, Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

This new movie will be produced by Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. Bay also produced both Ninja Turtles films under the supervision of Paramount's previous chairman. However, Jim Gianopulos is now at the helm, and its said that he is looking to give the franchise a bold new direction.

Hopefully, this means that the new film in production will be less "giant mutated monsters" and more "gritty ninjas in the streets of New York City." There are many beloved iterations of the Ninja Turtles, from the comic books to the '80s cartoon series, and all of them would make for great inspiration for Paramount's reboot of the franchise.
