Paramount Pictures announced that it will no longer be releasing its upcoming slate of films in Russia, including Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and The Lost City.

Paramount is the latest studio to cancel the cinematic launch of its movies in Russia following the country's invasion of Ukraine. "As we witness the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine, we have decided to pause the theatrical release of our upcoming films in Russia, including The Lost City, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2," said a spokesperson for Paramount. "We stand by all those impacted by the humanitarian crisis across Ukraine, Russia, and our international markets and will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds."

Many Hollywood studios are pulling their latest releases from Russia in a movement that was spurred on by Disney pausing the launch of Pixar's latest feature film Turning Red. This was in turn followed by Warner Bros. delaying The Batman, citing similar concerns. "In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of its feature film, The Batman in Russia," said the studio. "We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves. We hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to this tragedy."

Sony followed suit by pulling Morbius from Russian cinemas a full month before the film actually hits theaters on 1 April. "Given the ongoing military action in Ukraine and the resulting uncertainty and humanitarian crisis unfolding in that region, we will be pausing our planned theatrical releases in Russia, including the upcoming release of Morbius," said Sony. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been impacted and hope this crisis will be resolved quickly."

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is expected to further build on the solid foundation established in the original adaptation of the video game. Starring Ben Schwartz as the titular speedster and Jim Carey as the villainous Doctor Robotnik, alongside the vocal talents of Colleen O'Shaughnessey and Idris Elda, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 dashes into cinemas on April 8.

The Lost City is an adventurous rom-com starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe. The story focuses on adventure novelist Loretta Sage and cover model Alan embarking on a quest to discover an actual "Lost City," led by an eccentric billionaire known only as Fairfax.
