Amazon’s new Prime Video series Paradise City follows multiple rock bands. The storyline exemplifies how the spiritual world might actually be heavily involved in people’s lives without their knowledge. As such, the forces of good and evil try to influence the band members in their everyday walks of life, and each of the bands' names is highly symbolic of where its members stand in their respective spiritual struggles.

The Relentless

Paradise City The Relentless

Paradise City is a spin-off of the 2017 movie American Satan, which followed the members of The Relentless on their controversial rise to fame. As the movie’s name implies, the band’s success was directly related to involvement in demonic practices. Paradise City finds members of the band broke and forced to return to the spotlight after a year’s hiatus from music and witchcraft. Their fans are thrilled, but their ties to the occult are not completely severed.

The name The Relentless is twofold. First, it represents its members' endless and relentless pursuit of stardom. They originally achieved success through demonic practices, and even though they have sworn against a resurgence of witchcraft, others have continued in secret, so there could be a resurgence in order to maintain the spotlight. It also represents Capricorn’s tenacious pursuit of the band members. Since they were once involved with demons, the Devil will not let them go.

Over It All

Paradise City Over it All

Over It All is the name of a largely unsuccessful, struggling band. After futile attempts to build a fan base and develop their brand, they become the polar opposite of The Relentless. They were never involved in witchcraft, and they were also never really successful. Near the end of the season, one of its members quits because the stress of underperforming with no recognition was too much, so he decided that he was over the quest for stardom. The name also symbolizes how Capricorn does not even bother trying to influence them. In fact, they are never on screen at the same time. Because the Over It Alls are not influential to the masses, the Devil would rather focus on corrupting The Relentless to infiltrate their massive fanbase as well.

The Flux

Paradise City Simon band The Flux

Simon is a high school senior who fronts the DIY band The Flux. He is the son of a music tycoon but has never met his father. Through his continued hard work and bootstrapping, he finds himself scheduling shows for the same manager as his idol band, The Relentless. The word “flux” means that something is in motion or is fluid. It represents how Simon is at an influenceable point in his life. As the innocent kid who has never experienced corruption in the world of stardom or the supernatural. With the success that he finds at the end of the season, he meets Capricorn. He is a prime target for her Devil character. Depending on how he responds to temptation and stardom, he could easily end up like The Relentless.

Paradise City is streaming now on Amazon's Prime Video. It starts Andy Biersack, Ben Bruce, James Cassells, Booboo Stewart, Bella Thorne, Mark Boone Junior, Drea de Matteo, Rhys Coiro, Amanda Steele, Olivia Culpo and Cameron Boyce.
