WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Palm Springs, now streaming on Hulu.

While Neon and Hulu's time-loop romcom seemingly ended with a happily ever after, Palm Springs stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti think there's plenty of interesting ideas for a sequel or two -- and hint that things may not be what they seem.

The actors spoke to RadioTimes about last year's breakout film and the world of possibilities it opened up for more stories featuring the complicated couple. When asked whether the film could receive a follow-up, Samberg, who played Nyles in the movie, put it simply: "All we need is an incredible script."

Samberg went on to discuss what a sequel to the movie could look like, dropping an MCU tease along the way. "I mean, it could go in a lot of different directions because I feel like even the way that the movie ends is slightly open-ended, depending on your interpretation. So it could be marital bliss or it could be sort of a WandaVision situation. You’re not sure exactly where they are."

The actor didn't expound on the WandaVision reference, but putting it opposite of "marital bliss" likely references the trapped nature of Wanda and, especially, Vision on the Disney+ series. Of course, Palm Springs ends with the implication that Nyles and Sarah have escaped the time loop, so is this a hint that they are still stuck or is Samberg simply referencing a more metaphorical trap?

Milioti also admitted that sequel discussions have happened. "We actually have talked about it," she said. "We talked about it on set a lot."

For it to work, the whole team would have to get back together. As for the story, she has some ideas. "Obviously, it would have to be the same group again. I remember us all joking about doing sort of a Before Sunrise thing with it, where you visit them three different times throughout their lives," Milioti said. "So maybe we would do another one in 10 years and see what’s happened to them."

"But what I also love about the ending is, in my opinion, the ending is quite ambiguous," she continued, further hinting that the ending isn't as straightforward as it seems. "I know I have a very different idea of how it ends than Andy Samberg and from [writer] Andy Siara and [director] Max [Barbakow]; the four of us have entirely different ideas for it, which I love. So I guess we’d all have to get on the same page for a sequel."

Directed by Max Barbakow, Palm Springs stars Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti and J.K. Simmons. The film is now streaming on Hulu.
