In the Star Wars Universe, the High Republic is remembered as a time of great strides in space exploration when the Jedi Order was at the height of its power. But despite this being a time of great light within the galaxy, it was also a period of trial. The Great Disaster had sent large amounts of debris hurtling through the Outer Rim at near lightspeed, causing widespread destruction.

And in Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1, the Jedi respond by sending a group of padawans to the surface of a planet mere minutes before being completely wiped out.

That may sound like a rash decision for the Jedi Order, but the situation left Yoda with very few options. He had been leading a group of padawans on an educational tour of the galaxy aboard a learning cruiser. But more emergences -- the term for the debris coming in from hyperspace -- prompted the Jedi cruiser to try to save the planet Trymant IV. Unfortunately, attempting to rescue planets in danger of being hit by an emergence is extremely dangerous. The slightest miscalculation or misuse of time could cost millions of lives, including their own.

But Yoda's ship was the only one, Republic or Jedi, that would arrive in time to help anyone.  Of course, they chose to do the right thing and help. Yoda would handle the debris in space, taking on the immediate risk himself, while his padawans would rescue civilians on the planet's surface. Unfortunately, they had no idea what they were walking into.

Trymant IV was home to a city populated by a religious order. The people of Trymant IV don't believe that anyone should use the Force. It is unknown what prompted this belief, but they are adamant in the conviction that the force is a power to be respected and avoided. As if dealing with the mistrust of the people they are trying to save wasn't enough, the young Jedis soon discover that they are not the first to arrive on the planet -- the Nihil had come to take something for themselves.

It seemed as though the Nihil had a prior arrangement with the elder of the city, seeking to whisk him away to safety per their orders. The padawans, who quickly realized that they did not have enough space to rescue everyone, decided to appropriate the Nihil's ship to help the civilians. The raiders travel in packs, so on top of trying to help people who don't trust them, the padawans are now surrounded by a small army of violent murderers. What's more, and massive amounts of debris are falling above their heads while all of this is happening, so they had better hope the Force is with them.
