Pacific Rim Uprising's Amara belongs to the last generation that experienced rampant kaiju attacks -- and that ordeal has left plenty of emotional scars. After her parents were killed in the first attack, Amara prepared herself for the inevitability of the kaiju's return by throwing herself into Jaeger tech, becoming something of a "Jaeger hacker" along the way. This skill set will send her on an action-packed adventure that will put her on a collision course with Stacker Pentecost’s son Jake and his fellow Jaeger pilot Lambert.

Speaking to CBR, Amara actress Cailee Spaeny revealed what motivated her to join Pacific Rim Uprising. She discussed the importance of representation for young girls and what makes her character so relatable. She also teased the new generation of Jaeger pilots, who will present a unique challenge for Amara, and promised some surprises along the way.

CBR: What are you most excited for people to see from your character?

Spaeny: I think that she is someone who represents so much for young girls and I think that was the thing that I was most excited about. It was actually interesting… I got offered two roles at the same time when this came up, and I had to pick between both and that was the biggest thing for me, was that she is something that girls can look up to, who has taken something really tragic in her life and turned it around for the good. I think that's something that we all can relate to, especially young women. How to be strong and powerful and stand for themselves.

Who does your character bond with the most?

There is a young cast in there, and it's really interesting seeing my character -- who has never really grown up with kids her age -- interact and try to connect with other kids and how it takes her a while to try to figure that out and watching her work with other people, those kids in the cast, it's really interesting. But there's a lot of surprises in there that are really cool with the younger cast.
