Prepare to cancel the apocalypse again, because Universal Pictures has staked out a release date for the sequel to "Pacific Rim."

The Legendary Pictures sci-fi action film will storm into theaters Feb. 23, 2018, with Steven S. DeKnight behind the camera and "Star Wars" actor John Boyega presumably at the controls of a Jaeger. According to Deadline, he'll play the son of Idris Elba's character Stacker Pentecost.

Few other details are known about the sequel, although the story at one point was rumored to take place many years after the original, at a time when the enormous monster-fighting mecha are commonplace. Boyega's role as Pentecost's son would seem to add credence to that.

"Pacific Rim 2" will mark the feature directorial debut of DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Daredevil"), who boarded the project in February. “Jurassic World” co-writer Derek Connolly was hired three months later to tackle the screenplay.

Del Toro will remain as a producer.
