Pacific Rim 2 Already in the Works

Legendary Pictures has hired Travis Beacham, who wrote the original treatment for Pacific Rim, to collaborate with Guillermo del Toro on the script for the sequel. The film opens July 12.

We're fairly certain Guillermo del Toro doesn't sleep. Last week, he and Legendary Pictures began releasing a slew of marketing materials for his upcoming giant robots-versus-monsters movie Pacific Rim and just yesterday he announced his next directorial project, a haunted house film called Crimson Peak. And it doesn't stop there: According to The Hollywood Reporter, the busy filmmaker will also help write the sequel to Pacific Rim. It's unclear, however, whether he'll also direct.

He'll be joined by Travis Beacham, who wrote the original treatment for the film, opening July 12. Beacham also penned the 2010 Clash of the Titans remake and has worked on Bad Robot's Zanbato as well as Disney's Black Hole remake.

Legendary is banking on people liking Pacific Rim, which finds the world overrun by huge Kaiju monsters and humanity responding with giant, piloted robots called Jaegers. The film stars Ron Perlman, Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi.
