Night School Studios' uncanny supernatural-adventure game Oxenfree became a cult classic after its 2016 debut. Fans have been waiting five long years for its highly anticipated sequel, and it appears the wait is finally over. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals will take players on another spine-tingling journey that will leave players on the edge of their seats.

The original Oxenfree became an indie sensation, captivating gamers with its unsetting atmosphere, innovative storytelling and unorthodox gameplay. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals looks to build upon the first game's trailblazing mechanics while pushing the franchise in an exciting new direction. Inspired by 1980s horror movies and coming of age films, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals takes an unconventional approach to the adventure genre, giving players a unique gaming experience they won't soon forget.

The Lost Signals Trailer

Although the trailer is a bit ambiguous, it gives gamers a glimpse inside the disturbing world of Oxenfree II. Mysterious radio broadcasts set a troubling tone as eerie imagery of a distant lighthouse takes over the screen. The broadcasts convert to calls of distress as static and supernatural apparitions interrupt the transmission. The trailer suddenly cuts to a young woman named Riley as she uses her radio to manipulates frequencies to reshape the world around her. An obtuse triangle forms, cutting down nearby foliage before turning into a portal to a supernatural world.

Lost Signals Story Details

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals takes place five years after the events of the first game. It follows Riley as she investigates a string of mysterious radio signals tormenting her hometown of Camena. Shortly after her investigation begins, Riley realizes that there is more to the radio signals than meets the eye. Riley must find the source of the strange signals before they drive the town to the brink of insanity.

Unlike most sequels, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals won't continue the original game's story. Instead, it will introduce new characters and story narratives while incorporating the same dreary aesthetics Oxenfree is known for. The elaborate dialog system will return as well as the branching plotlines. Night School Studios remains tight-lipped about the upcoming sequel but promises it will encapsulate everything fans know and love from the original while offering an entry point for new players.

Night School Studios hasn't revealed Oxenfree II: Lost Signals' release date just yet, but it has announced that it will debut on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam sometime in 2021. Unfortunately, there isn't any indication that Oxenfree II: Lost Signals will be available on PlayStation or Xbox consoles. However, a next-gen port isn't completely out of the question. Night School developed a PS4 and Switch version of Oxenfree shortly after launching it exclusively on the Xbox One and PC, and will likely bring the sequel to other consoles later on. CBR will keep you updated as new information unfolds.

After five long years of anticipation, Oxenfree fans will finally be able to return to Edwards Island and uncover the mysteries surrounding the desolate land. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals will take the franchise to exciting new heights with new characters, storylines, and more. Although it doesn't pick up where the first game left off (the original has multiple different endings after all), it will still give gamers the unique gaming experience they expect from the unconventional series. If the trailer is any indication of the final product, gamers have a lot to look forward to with Oxenfree II: Lost Signals.
