Bubba Watson, the owner of the General Lee from "The Dukes of Hazzard" television series, announced on Twitter that he plans on painting over the Confederate flag on the car's roof, replacing it with the traditional stars and stripes of the American flag.

All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA— bubba watson (@bubbawatson) July 2, 2015

As reported on by Yahoo!, the decision comes in wake of the racially motivated murder of nine people in a historically black church during prayer service on June 17 and the subsequent rising movement against the Confederate flag -- seen by many as a symbol of racism and slavery -- and campaigns for its removal from the grounds of the South Carolina state capitol building. Since the tragic deaths, progress has been made, with Walmart, Sears, Amazon and other retail outlets banning the sale of Confederate flag-adorned merchandise, NASCAR asking fans to no longer fly the flag at its races and both TV Land and CMT pulling reruns of "The Dukes of Hazzard" from their schedule.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products also announced its intention to stop licensing die-cast toys and models of the General Lee that feature the stars and bars.
