A new synopsis for the upcoming Season 3 premiere of The Owl House, "Thanks to Them," has been released, though it doesn't give fans of the Disney Channel horror-comedy animated series much to go on.

The synopsis reads, "After months of trying, Luz [Noceda] and her friends make a daring attempt to return to the Demon Realm." A synopsis released by Disney before this along with the premiere date for the episode had stated that Luz and her friends from the Boiling Isles -- Amity Blight, Willow Park, Augustus "Gus" Porter and Hunter -- would take risks to get back to the Isles after getting "stuck in the human realm" following the Season 2 finale, "King's Tide." However, neither delves much into the plot of the episode.

It was announced last year that The Owl House would come to a close after three specials that serve as its third season. In response to this, series creator Dana Terrance commented, "At the end of the day, there are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided [The Owl House] didn't fit that 'brand.' The story is serialized... our audience skews older, and that just didn't fit this one guy's tastes."

The Owl House Was an Important Step in Representation

Regarding the Disney series' diverse setting, The Owl House gained applause for introducing Disney's first LGBTQ+ lead characters and showing the first same-sex kiss involving main characters. Cast member and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch -- who plays King and Hooty in the former show -- praised the show for telling the LGBTQ+ story he couldn't in the episode "Enchanting Grom Fright" back in 2020.

"Back when I made [Gravity Falls], Disney forbade me from any explicit LGBTQ+ [representation]," Hirsch said. "Apparently 'happiest place on Earth' meant 'straightest.' But as of today, thanks to [Dana Terrace] and team there are explicitly queer animated main characters on Disney TV. I'm so proud and happy to say that."

Hirsch had previously talked about Disney's strictness in an interview with CBR that same year alongside his co-star and Luz actor Sarah-Nicole Robles, recalling how his rebelliousness got him in trouble during his time at Disney Channel and saying that he "[thinks] being creative" can sometimes rub higher-ups the wrong way.

The Owl House returns to Disney Channel on Oct. 15, 2022 at 9 p.m.
