Overwatch is Coming to the Nintendo Switch

Gather around, heroes - Overwatch arrives on the Nintendo Switch this October.

During September's Nintendo Direct presentation, the popular team-based online shooter Overwatch's Switch arrival was announced with a release date of October 15, 2019. The Switch port of Blizzard's iconic shooter will be called Overwatch: Legendary Edition, similar to previous rereleases of the game. Players will be able to redeem a 3-month subscription code for Nintendo Switch Online and 15 Hero skins- 5 Legendary, 5 Epic and 5 Origin skins - with their purchase of the game.

Eager players who buy Overwatch on Switch at its $39.99 price tag will also grab the Noire skin for Widowmaker as a preorder bonus.

For those wondering if you have enough memory on your console/handheld hybrid, Overwatch's file size comes in at 12.1 GB. It's not clear whether all of the post-release characters and maps will be included, or if they'll need to be downloaded after installing the game. Either way, it may not be a bad idea to make some room on your Switch as Blizzard occasionally updates the online competitive shooter.

A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to play the game's various online modes. No announcement was made regarding save-data transfers, so it looks like veteran Overwatch players may need to start from scratch if they pick the game up on Switch.
