Part of the fun of reading manga, or watching anime, is to see a group of incredibly powerful people successfully take out almost equally powerful foes. But that can sometimes seem over the top, especially when, instead of one powerful protagonist (or antagonist), there’s an entire group or family of people with similar levels of power or strong abilities.

Some of the most popular manga families are made up of people who have a great deal of power, most to the point that there almost seems to be no point in them fighting anyone at all, since it’s clear they’re going to come out the victors.

10 Uzumaki Clan (Naruto)

Naruto and Hinata together in Boruto

Even with so many powerful families in Naruto, from the Uchihas to the Hyugas, the Uzumaki clan is the strongest family in the series. But there are several reasons this is the case. The Uzumakis are known for having an incredibly large amount of chakra and for using that chakra to create powerful jutsu.

Even without Kurama, Naruto would have been a formidable ninja. Plus, his descendants, Boruto and Himawari, have the added benefit of also being from the Hyuga clan, adding to the Uzumaki clan’s overall power.

9 Son Family (Dragon Ball)

From the very first chapter of Dragon Ball, it is clear that Goku is more powerful than just about anyone, thanks to his particular physical strength and also the martial arts training he’s undergone all his life, and that’s before anyone knows about his Saiyan heritage.

His wife, Chi-Chi, is also incredibly powerful, putting up a decent fight against Goku during their sparring date and seemingly being superhuman, even as a child. Their son Gohan definitely inherits these traits.

8 Kuchiki Clan (Bleach)

The Kuchiki Clan is one of the Four Noble Houses of Soul Society and, despite now having very few known members, arguably the most powerful one. The most famous member of this family is, of course, Rukia, who has shown herself to be a powerful Reaper time and again, while the head of the family is her brother-in-law Byakuya.

This family is an interesting one, as the existing members are both physically powerful and politically powerful, as shown by their rank as a Noble House.

7 Joestar Family (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure)

It would be impossible to discuss the strongest families in manga without mentioning the Joestars. The long-running Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure follows generation after generation of the Joestar family, with a new protagonist taking the lead in each series or part.

Each Joestar protagonist is incredibly strong, with abilities to use their Stands that often far outpace any of their opponents or allies. They are likely the strongest family in manga altogether, based solely on the fact that so many of them are powerful.

6 Family Of Toga (Inuyasha)

Toga is the Great Dog Demon in Inuyasha, one of two of the most powerful demons in existence. He has two known children in the series, Inuyasha, whose mother was a human, and Sesshomaru, whose mother was a daiyoukai.

Despite their different mothers, both of them are incredibly powerful and often are able to fight on a pretty even level. Their children are also powerful, seeming to inherit their fathers’ skills, despite being only half-demons, in Sesshomaru’s daughters’ cases, or a quarter-demon, in Inuyasha’s.

5 Yato Tribe (Gintama)

Kagura, Gintama

The Yato Tribe are a family of Amanto, or extraterrestrial aliens, who have come to reside in Japan in Gintama. Though members of the tribe look mostly human, they are much more powerful than humans, with incredible physical strength at their disposal.

They are essentially superhuman, with strength, speed, and stamina far superior both to the human beings around them and also to most of the other Amanto they come into contact with. Their one weakness appears to be sunlight, which can make them sick or even kill them.

4 The Britannias (Code Geass)

The Britannias are another interesting family with regards to the kind of power they have. While many of the members of the family are physically capable, participating in wars and, in Lelouch’s case, leading rebellions, they also benefit greatly from political power and hold a lot of sway over the world and its countries, many of which they have possession of.

If not for Lelouch’s interference, the Britannias could easily have taken over the world.

3 D Clan (One Piece)

D Clan

Monkey D. Luffy is part of a larger family that is certainly partially related to him, but many of them are actually a chosen family, all choosing to use the initial D in their names. The D seems to be a symbol of their commitment to a particular way of life.

Specifically, it seems that those who keep it are individuals who value freedom and have faith in their dreams. They fight for what they believe in, and they don’t fear death, many dying with a smile on their faces.

2 Zoldyck Family (Hunter X Hunter)

The Zoldyck family is best known as being the family that Killia ran away from in order to become a hunter, as well as being the family that has trained him since he was a child to be a master assassin. If Killia’s own instincts and power are anything to go by, the Zoldyck family must be incredibly formidable.

Plus, for much of the series, Killia himself is fairly frightened of them, showing just how much power they have.

1 Elric Family (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Elric Family

While the Elrics aren’t necessarily a physically strong family, they are a family of talented alchemists. Hohenheim, Edward and Alphonse’s father, is an accomplished alchemist who is world-renowned, and at least partially responsible for the creation of Father.

Edward himself is a State Alchemist, despite being only 14 when he joins up, and has shown himself to be pretty formidable in a fight, while his brother Alphonse knows alchemy and is also physically strong, thanks to his soul being joined to a metal suit.
