New details and specifics about the fourth season of Overlord are on their way.A special live stream event will be held on Youtube on March 12 to reveal more information about the upcoming season. Voice actors Yumi Hara (Albedo), Emiri Kato (Aura Bella Fiora) and Satoshi Hino (Ainz Ooal Gown) are expected to make appearances during the stream and the first full trailer will be dropped.
While fans will have to wait a while longer to see the full trailer, other promotional material has been released to build hype and excitement for Season 4. A teaser trailer for the upcoming season of Overlord was dropped at the end of last year and featured an intense musical score and action-packed imagery. Visuals of updated designs for characters like Ainz, Albedo, Shalltear, Cocytus, Demiurge and Aura were released online as well. A special Twitter giveaway was held earlier this month and fans were able to win poster versions of the new designs.
The Overlord anime series is based on the light novels of the same name by Kugane Maruyama; set in the year 2126, the story revolves around YGGDRASIL, a Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, and Momonga, a veteran player of the game. When YGGDRASIL is scheduled to be permanently shut down, Momonga refuses to log out and subsequently finds himself trapped within the game alongside its many NPCs, who are beginning to develop sentience.
Season 4 of Overlord is being produced by studio Madhouse (The Vampire Dies in No Time). Several members of the production team from the first three seasons have returned for the new season. This includes director Naoyuki Itou (No Guns Life), script supervisor Yukie Sugawara (Sword Art Online) and character designer Satoshi Tasaki (Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals).
Moreover, many cast members have reprised their roles for the fourth season of Overlord. Alongside Hara, Kato and Hino, Sumire Uesaka (Restaurant to Another World) is returning as Shalltear, Masayuki Katou (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate) as Demiurge, Kenta Miyake (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) as Cocytus and Yumi Uchiyama (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blood Orphans) as Mare Bello Fiore.
The fourth season of Overlord is expected to premiere sometime in 2022, but an exact release date has not been confirmed. Fans can catch up and watch the entireties of the first three seasons of the anime on Funimation and Crunchyroll.
