Does Overlord Have a Post-Credits Scene?

Overlord, the JJ Abrams-produced World War II horror movie, brings with it Nazi experiments and the undead. But what about a post-credits scene?

Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe is largely responsible for the current popularity of post-credits scenes, superhero films hardly hold the monopoly. Such recent genre releases as Tomb Raider, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Christopher Robin have included extra footage either during or after the credits. Heck, even the new Halloween has a stinger that opens the door to a sequel. But what about Overlord?

Directed by Julius Avery, the J.J. Abrams-produced war horror film was long believed by fans to be part of the expanding Cloverfield universe. However, Abrams insisted in April it isn't a prequel to the sci-fi horror series -- something confirmed with the arrival of the first trailer in July. Instead, Overlord follows a small group of U.S. paratroopers shot down behind enemy lines in France, where they discover a secret German compound, home to horrific experiments intended to create a "thousand-year army."

The premise certainly ripe for further exploration in a sequel, and the largely positive reviews -- it stands at 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes -- suggests critics might by receptive to one. (CBR's Justin Jones described Overlord as "a fun piece of cinematic trash" following its Fantastic Fest premiere in September.) So, it wouldn't exactly be surprising if the film added a stinger hinting at what's to come.

However, Overlord does not include a post-credits scene. The film has a seemingly definitive ending, and doesn't leave audiences hanging after the credits roll. That means you're safe make your way through the darkened theater and into the lobby without fear of missing anything important. However, we can offer no assurances about any Nazi zombies that may be lurking in the shadows of the theater, beneath your parked car, or behind that creepy tree at the corner of your house.

Distributed by Paramount Pictures, Overlord arrives in theaters this weekend with stiff competition from the animated Dr. Seuss' The Grinch, which is expected to dominate the domestic box office with a projected $69 million. Overlord is on track to finish fourth, with $8,4 million, behind holdovers Bohemian Rhapsody and Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, but just ahead of The Girl in the Spider's Web.

Opening Friday nationwide, Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, John Magno, Wyatt Russell, Bokeem Woodbine, Pilou Asbaek, Jacob Anderson and Iain De Caestecker.
