Pokémon is one of the biggest franchises in media, with fans of all ages. Since its beginning, gamers and anime lovers alike have discussed their favorite Pokémon, debating on which ones are the very best. These are usually the all-around favorites that everyone loves, such as Pikachu or Charizard.

They're always the ones to get the most spotlight and are the most coveted by players. With so many Pokémon out there, plenty get overlooked and are way underrated compared to the popular ones. With so many abilities and types, it's easy for the not-so-flashy Pokémon to slip through the cracks. They're all great in their own way, of course. Unfortunately, it's hard for the more average Pokémon to gain popularity nowadays.

10 Eevee Goes Unnoticed Compared To Its Evolutions

Glaceon, Umbreon, Espeon, Eevee, Vaporeon, and LeafeoPokémon

Eevee is one of the original species from Gen 1 of Pokémon. Though it has an adorable appearance and does get its fair share of love, fans usually desire Eevee for one main reason. It has so many different evolutions, almost one for every type at this point, each beloved by the fanbase. Everyone has their favorite "Eeveelution" that always outshines poor Eevee. It has been this way since the beginning, when Eevee had just three evolutions, Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, and it's likely a trend that will never go away.

9 Chikorita Is Passed Over By Fans

Chikorita with a green background in Pokemon.

It seems strange that a starter Pokémon would be considered overlooked, but when it comes to Chikorita, fans usually give a thumbs down. It's already unfortunate enough to be a grass type, the least popular of the three starter types. On top of that, fans seem to agree that Chikorita is the least interesting Gen 2 starter. Some even go so far as to say that Chikorita is one of the worst grass starters in general. When Chikorita does get recognition, it usually comes in the form of hatred, as many fans feel a very passionate dislike for this Pokémon.

8 Zebstrika Doesn't Have The Spark Fans Look For

Zebstrika From pokemon

Zebstrika is an electric-type species from Gen 5 and is one of the more appealing designs to come from the generation. Though its electric powers and attractive design make it stand out, it is a fairly forgettable Pokémon overall. It is a lot less cute than its pre-evolution, Blitzle, and is less appealing than Ponyta and Rapidash, which fans tend to favor. It has also made a few anime appearances, but nothing too memorable or important. The species doesn't have enough to really wow fans. Especially when compared to similar, more iconic Pokémon, Zebstrika comes up short.

7 Bewear Lacks The Appeal Of Other Pokémon From Alola

Bewear Pokemon Smiley

Pokémon Gen 7 introduces fans to the exotic new region, Alola. There are many unique and vibrant Pokémon to discover here, along with Alolan native forms of species fans know and love.

Bewear debuts as a species unique to the region. Unfortunately, it lacks the luster of many other more eye-catching Pokémon found in this tropical paradise. It has a very cute appearance and has surprisingly good strength, but its average design just can't match up to some of the adorable Pokémon found in Gen 7.

6 Arcanine Has Trouble Matching Up To The Pizazz Of New Generations

Arcanine

Arcanine has been around since the beginning, making multiple appearances in the games and series. It is a mainstay of the franchise as a whole. That said, even with such fame, this Pokémon is often underrated among fans. As the years have gone on, Pokémon have become more complex and fascinating than ever before. Though a much-loved Pokémon in the past, Arcanine barely stands out next to the newer species. While it frequented the anime series before, Arcanine now makes few appearances to make way for the new generations of Pokémon.

5 Primeape Is Overshadowed By Machamp And Other Fighting-Types

Primeape

Primeape is another original Pokémon from the beginning of the franchise that fans tend to forget about. Though it is brimming with personality in the anime, its anger is often on display at the expense of Ash. This fighting-type has to share the spotlight with favorites such as Machamp, Blaziken, and Lucario. It has a simple yet memorable design but its skills in battle pale in comparison to those of many others. Since the original generation, Primeape has gotten less and less attention, ultimately being forgotten by fans.

4 Sandslash Is Another Original Pokémon Forgotten Among The Generations

Sandslash in the Anime could teach potential Earthbending how to be Sandbenders

The original generation of Pokémon has some unforgettable and iconic species, with some still popular to this day. Sandslash is definitely still beloved by fans, but it hardly gets the praise it once enjoyed. Its design is a harmonious blend of cute and powerful and even has a special Alolan variant.

However, while the Alolan Sandslash renews interest in the Pokémon, the original species from Kanto has seen less and less spotlight. Like many other Gen 1 Pokémon, Sandslash is pushed back to make room for the newer Pokémon, including its new Alolan form.

3 Palossand Fails To Excite Fans

Palossand pokemon anime

Gen 5 is a strange time for designs in Pokémon, and Palossand is no exception to that. Like many other Pokémon from the generation, it takes inspiration from inanimate objects. In this case, a sandcastle. Many fans dislike the Pokémon from this generation as a whole, for no other reason than how they look. Palossand gets little to no appreciation, simply because it's just a sandcastle and nothing special. Not only is it shunned by fans, but it also makes little to no appearances in the anime whatsoever. It is almost as though everyone wants to forget this Pokémon and move on.

2 Golbat Is Easily Forgotten After Crobat Debuts

pokemon golbat

Fans everywhere have little love for Zubat or any of its evolutions, thanks to how incredibly common they are. However, Golbat seems to be forgotten the most out of the bunch. Once Crobat came around in Gen 2, Golbat was pushed to the side and forgotten. Its design is lacking compared to the newer evolution, with fans usually favoring Crobat. Despite still being one of the most recognizable Pokémon of the franchise, it somehow fades into a distant memory regardless.

1 Tauros Is As Average As It Gets For Pokémon

Ash calls forward Tauros for Pokemon Tournament Battle

Being a Normal-type, it is no surprise that Tauros is less than popular. Its design is nothing short of underwhelming, appearing almost no different than a real-life bull. Its strength is less than impressive as well, making it the least likely choice in a battle. All around, the Pokémon is very forgettable and has been since the early days of the first generation. While Tauros has had plenty of appearances in the anime, even being one of Ash's Pokémon for a time, there are few who would say that it is their favorite Gen 1 Pokémon.
