The first gameplay trailer for Overkill’s upcoming The Walking Dead game was released at the annual E3 gaming convention today, along with its release date. The trailer introduces a world that will be familiar to fans of the Robert Kirkman’s comic series by the same name; a zombie plague has turned countless people into mindless flesh-eaters, all intent on gorging themselves on the few remaining survivors.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is a four-player co-op first-person shooter that will pit players against not just the hordes of the dead, but also the living. Such is a common theme of The Walking Dead franchise, that those who survive the zombie apocalypse can be just as dangerous as the ones who did not.

The trailer also assembles the four playable characters Overkill has been steadily teasing over the last few months. Those characters are the melee fighter Aidan, the medic Maya, the rifleman Grant and teacher Heather.
