Official Press Release
DC Comics continues its impressive streak of sold-out issues with recent titles including OUTSIDERS #2 (MAY030198), TEEN TITANS #1 Second Printing (MAY035128), ARROWSMITH #1 (MAY030209), BIRDS OF PREY #57 (MAY030149), and EMPIRE #0 (MAY030172) all selling out at the publisher.
“Given the generous overprintings we did on all these books, we’re particularly proud of these sell-outs,” says Bob Wayne, DC’s VP – Sales & Marketing. “It’s clear that reader enthusiasm for them is very strong. We urge retailers to increase their orders on upcoming issues of these and other recently sold-out titles.”
OUTSIDERS #2, written by Judd Winick with art and cover by Tom Raney and Scott Hanna, sold out one week after its in-store date of July 23. This follows the quick sell-out of issue #1.
“Apparently, if you take a thousand gorillas with guns, President Lex Luthor fleeing New York City, a 7-foot amazon catching a jet plane with her bare hands, and a super team dealing with all of it – people will come,” says Winick. “We couldn’t be more excited by this sell-out!”
TEEN TITANS #1 Second Printing, written by Geoff Johns with art and cover by Mike McKone and Marlo Alquiza, sold out on July 23, its first day in stores. This follows the sell-out of the issue’s original printing, which happened nine days before reaching stores.
“We’re thrilled that TITANS #1 is flying out the doors – but wait ’til everyone sees #2,” says Johns.
ARROWSMITH #1, written by Kurt Busiek with art and cover by Carlos Pacheco and Jesus Merino, sold out on July 16, its first day in stores.
“If people like what they’ve seen so far, well, there’s plenty more coming,” says Busiek. “The series gets more and more intense as it goes along, and I don’t think anyone’s going to be expecting what happens at the end of #3. Or in #4. Or in #5. Or…”
BIRDS OF PREY #57, written by Gail Simone with art and cover by Ed Benes and Alex Lei, sold out less than a week after its on-sale date of July 23.
“Including BIRDS OF PREY SECRET FILES, that’s three sell-outs for three issues,” says Simone. “Clearly, this can only mean one thing: Fishnets for the Justice League!”
EMPIRE #0, written by Mark Waid with art and cover by Barry Kitson and James Pascoe, sold out before issue #1’s in-store date of July 30.
“I never thought I’d say this,” says Waid, “but it just goes to show, sometimes evil really CAN triumph.”
DC will evaluate each of these sold-out issues on a case-by-case basis, and has no plans to go back to press at this time.
