Picking the perfect character class in Outriders is no simple task. Players must make sure it matches their preferred playstyle while meshing with their allies in high-stakes combat. Although each class has its own unique strengths and abilities, players looking to get up close and personal with their opponents might want to give Devastator a try.

Devastators are powerful Outriders with the ability to manipulate gravity and use it against their enemies. They tend to prefer in-fighting over long-ranged combat, although they aren't afraid to mix it up at a distance. Despite Devastators' slower nature, their intense close-ranged attacks and tremendous vigor make them an unrelenting force on the battlefield.

Since Devastators are deadliest at close range, shotguns are key components of their arsenal. They mesh perfectly with their special abilities and give them the edge they need to crush opponents at arm's length. Shotguns allow Devastators to overwhelm their opponents up close while their team hammers away at them from the outside. They also help fend off enemies as they attempt to swarm allied Outriders. If players want to get the most out of their Devastator, they need to know their way around a shotgun.

Every Outrider comes with their own unique special abilities. Devastators center around gravity and mass, granting them control over the laws of physics. In the demo, Devastators can unlock four class abilities: Earthquake, Golem, Gravity Leap and Reflect Bullets. These are a solid mix of both close and mid-range attacks, making Devastators extremely lethal at nearly any range.

Earthquake sends violent shockwaves towards approaching opponents, Golem surrounds devastators in a dense outer shell that gives them an extra layer of protection, Gravity Leap sends players flying through the air as they hack their foes to bits and Reflect Bullets sets up an impenetrable barrier that collects incoming bullets and hurls them back at enemies.

While every ability has its strengths and weaknesses, combining Earthquake, Reflect Bullets and Gravity Leap together makes for a deadly combination. These three abilities give Devastators an equal balance of defense and aggression, making them near-unstoppable at both close and mid-range. Devastators can shield their allies with Reflect Bullets and annihilate any remaining enemies with Gravity Leap or Earthquake.

Gravity Leap also allows Devastators to quickly change their position on the battlefield in a blink of an eye. It comes in handy when players need to get to hard-to-reach areas to give cover fire or take out multiple enemies huddled together. Although more effective ability combinations will unlock once the game officially launches, utilizing Earthquake, Reflect Bullets and Gravity Leap will give Devastators a leg up in the Outriders demo.

Devastators' brute force and near-impenetrable armor give novice players the illusion that they are invincible. Many newcomers overestimate the Devastator's resistance and often find themselves in over their heads. It's important to know when to charge in on opponents and when to fall back and mend your wounds. Rushing The Anomaly right away will guarantee players nothing but a quick death; approaching each battle strategically and setting up attacks is vital to a Devastator's survival.

Although Devastators aren't the fastest or most complex Outrider class, their sheer power and intensity more than makes up for their slow nature. They can make their way inside to deliver devastating blows while their teammates chip away at opponents from a distance. Their powerful abilities allow them to take extra damage while distributing it ten-fold to their enemies. Outriders players looking for a powerful class that isn't afraid to get up close and personal with their foes should definitely check out the Devastator class.
