"Outcast" Adds Scott Porter In Potentially Sinister Role

Deadline has learned that "Friday Night Lights" alum Scott Porter has joined the cast of "Outcast," Cinemax's adaptation of the Image Comics series by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta.

Porter will play Donnie Hamel, described in the report as an "amiable and engaging type-A former jock whose work returns him home to Rome, West Virginia. There he crosses paths with Megan Holter (Wrenn Schmidt) and a more sinister side of Donnie is revealed."

The actor, who portrayed paralyzed former high school football star Jason Street on "Friday Night Lights," is coming off a lead role on the CW's recently ended "Hart of Dixie." "Outcast" follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who's been plagued by demonic possession all his life. With the help of the Rev. Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost.

While Cinemax has yet to set a date for the premiere of "Outcast," the network has stirred up interest in the series from the "Walking Dead" creator by releasing a trio of new photographs.
