Falling in love is the whole point of the popular teen romance anime Ouran High School Host Club which ran for only one season in 2006. The "reverse-harem" (as one precocious four-year-old calls it in the show) is designed so that there's somebody for everybody at the school, romantically, among their characters. If a guest likes the Cool Type, she'd pick Kyoya; if Prince Charming is more her type, she'd go with Tamaki. If neither of those floats her boat and she wants someone a little more down-to-earth, Haruhi's orobably her go-to host.

Of course, the trouble is, outside of the club, these characters' personalities differ a bit from their Host personas. They're people with real conflicts, hangups, and complicated lives, so while the girls may fantasize about dating them and it being perfect, the reality is that some of them are probably harder to be in a relationship with than others. Here's a list of 10 of the main characters of Ouran High School Host Club, ranked in order of how dateable they are.

10 Mitskuni “Honey” Haninozuka

Mitskuni Haninozuka

It's true, Honey-senpai is about as adorable as they come - he's sweet and loves cake, and is loyal and straight-to-the-point with his friends when he needs to be. The thing is though, while he is technically eighteen, he also acts just like a child. Even if a prospective date could set aside the fact that that alone should be a deterrent from most people wanting to date him on the face of it, it logistically presents more problems.

Dating someone at Honey's level of maturity (or the lack thereof) would require constant care and attention, and would be more like having a kid than having a boyfriend. And besides, he's pretty emotionally attached to his cousin Mori - it would be hard to compete there in terms of attention.

9 Umehito Nekozawa

Everybody likes a bad boy with a dark past, but Nekozowa-senpai would probably be a lot to date, even for those people who consider themselves "fixers" in relationships. Ouran students should probably find another emo boy who likes occult things and would prefer to be out at night rather than during the day - Nekozowa's tendency to creep around, as well as his literal allergy to sunlight, would probably make him incredibly difficult to date.

Maybe a student who wanted to date him should let him develop a stable relationship with his little sister first, and see if that makes him a little more sociable.

8 Renge Houshakuji

Renge Hoshokuji

While nobody's going to tell someone they shouldn't date Renge, many people might wonder why they're doing it. Renge Houshakuji is incredibly doting, and she clearly wants everyone in her life to be the best that they can be (even if she has to coach them through it step-by-step).

However, between her taste for expensive cosplay, her love for picture-perfect characters in dating sims, and how generally high-strung she is, she'd probably be the most high-maintenance girlfriend any boy at Ouran could imagine.

7 Hikaru Hitachiin

Hikaru is a sweet guy, even if he does have a bit of a troublemaker streak. His mischievousness can be fun, too, especially for the type of person who loves a good prank. The thing about Hikaru is he's really emotionally immature, which is exposed when he tries to go on a date with Haruhi.

He's not great about expressing his feelings, and he's even worse about separating from his twin brother. Until he can grow a little bit emotionally, and learn to not be so attached to Kaoru, Hikaru probably isn't the best dating option for any of the students at Ouran.

6 Kyoya Ootori

Kyoya Ootori seems like he would be the perfect boyfriend but behind the scenes, he's shown to be much more cool and calculating than he would let his guests believe. However, we also know that even some of that cold, calculating demeanor is a disguise.

Kyoya is a complicated person. He has a lot of family baggage, and he puts a lot of pressure on himself to be the best, even at times when he doesn't need to be. Still, it's clear that he genuinely cares about the people around him and will go to great lengths to make them happy without ever accepting credit. If the student who decided to try don't mind doing some work to get to his emotional center, he's not the worst option to date.

5 Haruhi Fujioka

Haruhi Fujioka

With Haruhi, what you see is what you get. She's not one to play games, and not one to obsess over labels; even labels about her gender don't phase her one way or the other. She's kind, caring, and genuine, with a big heart and brain to match - there's a reason basically every host in the club is into her at some point.

Yes, Haruhi Fujioka is pretty dateable... as long as the person who wants to date her can make her notice they're into her. She's really oblivious, and even overt expressions of affection go right over her head. Still, she's a great partner for anyone who doesn't mind that she's mainly focused on one thing at a time, and that thing is not usually romance.

4 Kaoru Hitachiin

Kaoru has the same issues as his brother, but less so. He's just as attached to Hikaru as Hikaru is to him, and he doesn't want their time in their little bubble to end, necessarily. Still, he's definitely more emotionally mature than Hikaru, and way more self-aware: He even knows that, eventually, he and his brother will move on and come to depend on other people.

Even that realization makes him a few steps closer to date-readiness than Hikaru. With the right person, Kaoru would be very sweet, supportive boyfriend - and would still be up for some fun pranks every now and again, too.

3 Tamaki Suoh

Is Tamaki dramatic? Yes. A handful? You bet. Enthusiastic to the point of delusion and mania? Almost always. Dating Tamaki Suoh would be a lot to handle, no doubt about it, especially for anyone who's not the super-romantic type. However, if the lucky student were the super-romantic type, then dating Tamaki would be a dream - and even if they weren't, he would still have his heart of gold to offer.

At Tamaki's core is the desire to make everyone around him happy, and the person who holds his heart would naturally be first on that list. That's not a bad trade for a little bit of drama now and again.

2 Takashi “Mori” Morinozuka

Mori is basically everything one could want in a boyfriend. He's handsome, strong, caring, loyal, and sweet - and a great listener to boot. As far as members of the actual Host Club, Mori is by far the most emotionally mature. He's just a quiet, sweet guy. The one thing about Mori that a potential partner might have to get around is his attachment and loyalty to Honey, which will always come first.

But if the person courting him could assure him that he would still have plenty of room for his cousin in his life, and that they loved Honey as much as he did - and as long as she doesn't mind carrying most of the conversations in the relationship - Mori would make a great boyfriend.

1 Ritsu Kasanoda

He's not a member of the Host Club and he may be a little scary-looking, but Ritsu Kasanoda is by far the most dateable single person in Ouran. He's a little shy, but he's incredibly caring, even to strangers and injured birds. He puts on a mean face because it's expected of him, but all he really wants to do is play games and have a little fun.

If a student could get over a bit of an unconventional face (and the fact that he runs a mafia family), Kasanoda would make a really awesome boyfriend. He and whoever he was with would be the cutest couple on the show, even as background characters.
