Our Lives Together - Alias and Daredevil Show Both Sides of the Door

In this feature, I will spotlight some of the more interesting examples of shared comic book universes. You know, crossovers that aren't exactly crossovers.

Today, based on a suggestion by reader Trevor R., we take a look at a sly "crossover" between Daredevil and Alias.

In Daredevil #36 by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, Daredevil's secret identity has just been revealed to the world and he is trying desperately to find a way to put the genie back into the bottle. He gets a visitor...

You might have noticed that Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were working as bodyguards for Matt (as a lot of nutjobs came out of the woodwork once his identity was revealed). Well, a couple of months later, in Alias #15 by Bendis and Michael Gaydos, we see the conversation on the OTHER side of the door...

I cut it off here before the conversation got really graphic, but basically Luke is irked that Jessica is irked at him because she was the one who pursued a sexual relationship between the two. She tries to deflect by talking about he was having sex with other people (to which he countered that she surely had not given any indication that she wanted to be in a relationship) and that he only slept with her because he is a "cape chaser" (to which he countered that yes, he sleeps with a lot of super-powered women, but that's because those are the women that he sees all the time). At the end, they come to a detente in their awkward stage and become friends again (this, of course, was the second step on the road to them getting together at the end of Alias).

Very clever work by Bendis.
