Our Flag Means Death star Samba Schutte recently revealed that shooting has begun on Season 2 of the historical romantic comedy.
Schutte, who plays Roach, confirmed that filming was underway via a photo shared on Twitter. The black-and-white image depicts Schutte's cast member chair (which bears Roach's name) on the set of Our Flag Means Death and is accompanied by the caption "Day 1 ahoy." Schutte's tweet doesn't provide any further details regarding the Season 2 shoot, such as how long it is expected to last. HBO Max previously confirmed that the production is now based in New Zealand, however.
Our Flag Means Death landed a second season in June 2022, following months of passionate campaigning by the show's fanbase. Creator David Jenkins acknowledged this support in a statement released shortly after Our Flag Means Death Season 2 was confirmed. "We felt the show was special while we were making it," he said, "But fans' open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes heading into a second season all the more sweet. Thanks to our team at HBO Max, our invested executive producers, and our wildly enthusiastic audience for making another voyage to this world possible."
Our Flag Means Death Creator Teases Season 2
More recently, Jenkins teased the plot of Our Flag Means Death Season 2 via a cryptic tweet in which he hinted that heartbreak was in store for the crew of the Revenge in the upcoming batch of episodes. A hashtag attached to Jenkins' tweet also seemingly confirmed that Nathan Foad's Lucius Spriggs did indeed die at the hands of Taika Waititi's Blackbeard, something only implied during the Season 1 finale, "Wherever You Go, There You Are." That said, HBO Max is yet to officially confirm that Foad has exited the series.
Should the Our Flag Means Death cast have indeed decreased in size as Jenkins' tweet suggests, Waititi already has an actor in mind to fill the vacant spot: Chris Hemsworth. Waititi joked that Hemsworth could join the series as Blackbeard's cousin "Blondebeard" during the promotional tour for the pair's latest collaboration, Thor: Love and Thunder. The Kiwi filmmaker further quipped that Hemsworth should check the spam folder in his inbox, claiming that this was the reason why he hadn't received an invitation to join Our Flag Means Death sooner.
Our Flag Means Death Season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
