With the impending release of Hellboy, it's already a pretty big year for Mike Mignola fans. Now, the legendary comics creator is teaming up with cartoonist Warwick Johnson-Caldwell to bring one of his other co-creations back to comics with Our Encounters with Evil: Adventures of Professor J.T. Meinhardt and His Assistant Mr. Knox, a sequel to the 2017 graphic novel Mr. Higgins Comes Home.

The graphic novel sees vampire hunters Prof. Meinhardt and Mr. Knox returning to the Hammer Horror-inspired milieu of its predecessor. The new book will be a collection of three stories that are told by Professor Meinhardt to his colleagues Knox and Mary Van Sloan. While Mignola wrote Mr. Higgins, Warwick-Johnson will be handling both writing and illustration for Our Encounter With Evil, with Mignola serving as cover artist.

"Warwick brought an insane amount of energy and invention to Mr. Higgins Comes Home — more ideas than could ever fit into that one book" Mignola told the Hollywood Reporter. "So I was thrilled when he told me he wanted to continue the adventures of Meinhardt and Knox."

This novel and its predecessor were both inspired and informed by Mignola and Johnson-Caldwell's shared love of the Hammer Horror films of the '60s and '70s, known for their over the top performances and vibrant special effects.

While the duo didn't reveal any details about the monsters the vampire hunters will encounter in this novel, Caldwell-Johnson offered a hint about the stories' settings.

"These stories take us through the dark-hearted Hornetwood, across the diabolic Blackwater Falls, and into the hands of a deadly hunter," Caldwell-Johnson said.

Mignola offered an even more vague teaser about the horrors that the title will bring to life.

“Look forward to a whole world of vampires and related monstrosities like nothing you’re even seen before,” he said. Given Mignola's track record with creating monsters, that's not a promise to take lightly.
