Today, Submarine announced that Oscar winner Julia Roberts is attached to the remake of "Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard around the World," a documentary about the Make-a-Wish Foundation's success in turning downtown San Francisco into Gotham for a five year old Leukemia patient named Miles.

Roberts plans to star in the film, which will follow the citywide spectacle created for the little boy affectionately called Batkid by the media. She will also produce alongside Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through Red Om Films.

"It's thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles' story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do," says the original documentary's director, Dana Nachman. Nachman will serve as executive producer on Roberts' project.

"Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard around the World" premieres this Saturday, January 24 in Park City at Slamdance Film Festival 2015.
