If you’re a fan of "Star Wars" and the Ultra HD format, you may be happy to learn that a 4K restoration version of “Star Wars: A New Hope” exists at Lucasfilm headquarters.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” director Gareth Edwards dropped this bombshell during an interview with Little White Lies where he revealed he viewed this secret edition, before starting work on “Rogue One.”

Edwards said, “On day one, we were in Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Industrial Light and Magic and John (Knoll), our supervisor, he said that they’ve got a brand new 4K restoration print of A New Hope—it had literally just been finished. He suggested we sit and watch it.”

If a 4K restoration of “A New Hope” exists, one can speculate it’s only a matter of time before fans have the opportunity to buy, and watch it, as well. One crucial piece of information that Edwards neglected to divulge is whether this was the restoration of the theatrical cut, which fans have clamored to be remastered in high definition for years, or the Special Edition that included additional scenes inserted into the film, to the dismay of some loyal fans.
