Jason Paige, the singer behind the original Pokemon opening theme, has released a new song for the Pokemon series -- this time for the newly released Detective Pikachu.

The song "It'll Always Be Me & You" is not part of the film's soundtrack, but is written and composed for the movie. Paige released a video online featuring him introducing and performing the song, sporting a Pikachu guitar and fascinating tie that defies gravity.

Paige is most famous for creating the iconic original Pokemon theme song. It replaced the original Japanese opening, and almost immediately overshadowed it. While the song accomplished its goal as part of 4Kid's attempts to localize the Japanese anime for a western audience, its success is measurable beyond that. After 20 years, it remains among the most widely known opening songs in animation history.

Detective Pikachu features Paige's opening theme, though its iconic music and lyrics appear separately. The song plays like a nostalgic trip for longtime Pokemon fans who grew up listening to Paige's original song, and continues to be an influence on fans all around the world.
