Before Elisabeth Moss took on the Invisible Man in the 2020 adaption of H. G. Wells' science fiction novel, there was the 1933 version starring Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart. While many viewers of the new film have never seen the original, there are a few fans out there who are willing to pay big money for some 1933 merchandise.

A movie poster for the 1933 version of the film sold at an auction this past Saturday for $182,400. Original expectations had it selling for around $125,000, but those numbers were quickly shattered.

"Even in these troubled economic and uncertain times, this was a big success," said Grey Smith, Director of Posters at Heritage Auctions.

The poster was one of several classic monster film prints that were for sale at the auction, including Peter Cushing's Horror of Dracula, Frankenstein, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, The Ghost of Frankenstein, The House of Frankenstein and Creature of the Black Lagoon.

The Invisible Man is written and directed by Leigh Whannell and stars Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Aldis Hodge, Harriet Dyer and Storm Reid. The film is now available on video on demand.
