Only God Forgives Trailer Reveals a Fitting Follow-Up to Drive

Ryan Gosling and Nicholas Winding Refn have reteamed for their follow-up to Drive. The Only God Forgives trailer has arrived online, and it definitely seems like it could be set in the same dark, violent and unforgiving world that Gosling and Refn created in their first collaboration.

The trailer opens with Kristen Scott Thomas, who plays the mother of Gosling's character, giving a monologue about how she knew from the moment she was pregnant with him that he was different. Although people told her to terminate her pregnancy, she didn't and now she doesn't understand the things Gosling's Julian does. We get a taste of those actions in this trailer, which shows Julian dragging a man by his teeth across the floor, shooting people and challenging a man, "Want to fight?"

Only God Forgives also stars Tom Burke, Yayaying and Vithaya Pansringarm. It's due in theaters on July 19. Here's the official synopsis:

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.
