Official Press Release
Oni Press is pleased to announce a new release date for the digest tradepaperback collection of Gail Simone and Lea Hernandez's KILLERPRINCESSES! Collecting the fan-favorite miniseries and featuring anintroduction by Mark Waid and a new illustrated prose story by thecreators, KILLER PRINCESSES follows sorority sisters Hope, Faith, andCharity as they hit the books…and henchmen and gangsters and governmentagents and anything else that gets in their way!
"Before Gail wowed fans with her take on certain DC BIRDS, there werethe PRINCESSES," commented editor James Lucas Jones. "Gail had anestablished fanbase with her YABS! Column and had already broken intothe biz with work for Bongo, but these three girls gave her anopportunity to really let loose. In KP there are no rules and there areno limits. It's rare for a creator as fresh as Gail was at the time tobe given a playground with zero boundaries, but she took full advantageof the opportunity to do something totally outrageous. Sure, she went onto gain fan-favorite status with books like DEADPOOL, AGENT X, BIRDS OFPREY, and LEGION, but KP shows she was nuts from the start!"
"Lea and I had been friends and mutual admirers for a while when sheapproached me about collaborating," added Simone. "She'd alreadystretched her resume with the hard-hitting RUMBLE GIRLS, which I adored, and she said she wanted to take it a step beyond and really do somethingthat could showcase her abilities as both a cutie-pie artist and abrutal action storyteller. The dichotomy of KP just suits her perfectly.Plus, she's a lunatic. Perfect."
"Working on KILLER PRINCESSES required a completely different frame ofmind than I'm used to," added co-creator and artist Lea Hernandez. "Gailcrafted a smart and crafty script that stars characters that areabsolutely lacking in the grey matter department. It was a challenge, but it was also an absolute blast."
"Lea brings a creative spark to KP honed over years of her own creativework," said Jones. "Both RUMBLE GIRLS and the Texas Steam books featurestrong female characters, but KP lets her go nuts with characters thatjust don't know better, even if the creators do."
The title may describe our three deadly, dumb debs-Hope, Faith, andCharity-but there are other things going on in KILLER PRINCESSES. Thehouse mother and the myriad of other characters, including eco-friendlyterrorists, hoity-toity professors, big jocks on campus, and even thesorority's newest pledge, all play a role in the dangerous gameorchestrated by the secretive sorority. What exactly is this ordertrying to accomplish by sending the sisters out on missions ofunrestrained violence and comedy?
"While the Princesses are every bit as stupid as they initially appear, the book isn't," Simone said. "It's not just a high-octane yuck-fest.There are other things going on beneath the surface. If you like sexywomen who shoot things and can't do geometry, this book is for you!"
KILLER PRINCESSES will feature 104 pages of black-and-white story andart, with a full color cover. With a cover price of $9.95, it will shipto comic book stores December 1, 2004. The book measures 5.5"x8" and isavailable for preorder in the current Previews catalog.
