Oni Press has announced five new graphic novels slated to release in the first half of 2018. The books touch on a variety of subjects ranging from practical magic and its application in high school popularity contests to ursine love.
“We are very proud to be publishing this incredible lineup of original graphic novels,” Oni Press Managing Editor Ari Yarwood said in a press release. “All of these talented authors have a strong creative viewpoint that we wanted to showcase, and we hope readers will love these stories as much as we do.”
The Altered History of Willow Sparks by Tara O’Connor follows the eponymous Willow Sparks as she discovers a magic book that showers her with high school popularity — and all its repercussions. The Altered History of Willow Sparks releases on January 17, 2018.
Archival Quality by Ivy Noelle Weir and Steenz tells the story of Celeste Walden, the latest archivist to work in the haunting Logan Museum, who is seemingly being contacted from beyond the grave. Archival Quality releases on March 7, 2018.
Sci-Fu by Yehudi Mercado combines hip-hop, sci-fi and Kung Fu in an ’80s setting that sees disc jockey Wax scratch a perfect beat that summons aliens who abduct himself and his family. Wax will have to master alien music if he wants to save himself, his crew and the world. Sci-Fu releases on March 14, 2018.
My Boyfriend is a Bear by Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris delivers exactly what it’s advertising. Nora meets a bear while on a hike in Los Angeles and the two fall in love, but must prove to others, including Nora’s friends and family, that their love is pure and not at all as strange as it sounds. My Boyfriend is a Bear releases on April 11, 2018.
Dead Weight: Murder at Camp Bloom by Terry Blas, Molly Muldoon, and Matthew Seely pits a group of Oregon summer campers against an unfolding mystery when the camp’s counselors turn up dead. The twist? One of the counselors is responsible. Dead Weight: Murder at Camp Bloom releases April 25, 2018.
