The creators of the hit shonen One-Punch Man have announced Season 3 with stunning new promotional artwork.The news released on the official One-Punch Man Twitter page, along with art showing Saitama standing alongside Garou, one of the main antagonists of the series. No significant details have yet been unveiled about Season 3's plot, though the art suggests that fans can expect a big showdown between Saitama and Garou.
It has been a few years since people saw Saitama in action. One-Punch Man Season 2 premiered in April 2019 and ran for 12 episodes before wrapping up in July later that year. In addition to the first two seasons, there are also three One-Punch Man OVA episodes, which follow events that occur between episodes and give additional development to side characters. The last OVA to be released revolved around Genos, Saitama's disciple. This OVA was released in October 2019, around three years since Saitama last appeared on the silver screen.
The announcement did not come with any staff or casting details, so it is not yet known whether Season 1 director Shingo Natsume (Space Dandy, Tatami Time Machine Blues) or Season 2 director Chikara Sakurai (Shenmue the Animation) are returning to the director's seat for Season 3. It is also unconfirmed whether Madhouse or J.C. Staff, which produced One-Punch Man Seasons 1 and 2, respectively, will be in charge of Season 3 or if a different studio will be heading Saitama's next big adventure.
One-Punch Man began as a web-comic created by ONE, who began publishing it on their website starting in 2009. Artist Yusuke Murata later redrew the series and had it serialized on the online version of Weekly Young Jump. The story revolves around a superhero named Saitama, whose training regiment makes him so powerful that he can defeat each of his enemies with just one punch. This causes Saitama to become frustrated and bored with his job, missing the adrenaline rush that fighting used to give him. However, One-Punch Man's boredom does not last forever, as he eventually encounters enemies that cause him to develop new techniques and put his strength to the ultimate test.
The One-Punch manga series is still ongoing, with 26 volumes currently available. Murata's redrawn version of the story is available in English from VIZ media. The first two seasons of the anime are available on Hulu.
