The superhero anime genre is far from new. From Astro Boy to the widely popular My Hero Academia, avid anime fans have a variety of shows to binge on. And then there's One-Punch Man, which stands out on its own. The anime has the signature markings of the typical superhero story but goes against the grain at the same time. Yes, there's the main character who has trained countless nights and nonstop action to keep viewers glued to the screen.

But there's also a twist that hadn't been seen before: centering the story around a superhero who has reached the pinnacle of strength. Saitama has a level of strength that goes unmatched by anyone who stands in his way, no matter how many times he tries to reel in his strength. It's a goal that countless superheroes and villains have strived for but alas, this is the harsh reality that Saitama lives in.

7 There Is Nothing New To Learn

One of the simple joys in life is learning something new. Although it can be challenging at first, there's no denying the innovative knowledge and skills that can be gained along the way. Not to mention, there are many benefits to taking on new hobbies or trying different languages. That joy can easily be dashed away when there aren't any new lessons to acquire. This is exactly how Saitama feels. Due to the knowledge that he gained through his extensive training, Saitama's powerful punch has become so effective that he sees no need to learn more or anything better.

6 He Has No Need To Build Resilience

It is an admirable ability to persevere through setbacks and stressful situations. A person needs to be in a certain mindset that calls for mental strength and focus. Saitama actually reveals his profound sense of determination through his intense training routine that helped him build strength.

Despite Saitama not lacking any resilience, he rarely showcases this trait throughout the series. He never needs to because each battle with a monster or villain turns out to be too easy. As a result, Saitama doesn't experience any struggles that will help him reach a new perspective.

5 He Feels No Joy In What He Does

The question about which character is the strongest in a show will always birth a hot debate amongst fans. No matter the number of training montages or knowledge of deadly techniques, it's difficult to decide on one over another. For Saitama, he is truly the strongest because he is known to defeat everyone with a single punch, but alas, there can be huge downsides to bearing that title.

Saitama actually said it best in the first episode of the show after beating a giant villain who towered over sky-rises and buildings: "Having overwhelming strength is pretty boring." As a result, it's no surprise that he continues to struggle with this and only finds joy in snagging deals at the local supermarket.

4 Every Win Feels Lackluster To Him

There is no better adrenaline rush than watching characters become entangled in epic battles, especially when the levels of strength and expertise are closely matched between them. There's no shortage of those in anime, and fans can always look forward to expertly-executed fight choreography. Not to mention, they can cheer on their favorites while sitting on the ends of their chairs and hoping they will win in the end.

However, that win can feel hollow and void of any true excitement when the fight feels too easy. Such is the case for Saitama, because he seamlessly sidesteps through every villain's block or jab. The battle sequences appear more comical than intense when Saitama appears to be walking through everything.

3 There Can Be A Tendency To Be Arrogant

Whether it is agreed upon or not, winners of battles and tournaments have earned every bragging right because they've worked hard to be at the top. But even being at the top can come with its own set of issues, such as the inclination to be arrogant. It leaves winners with the mindset that they're entitled to win all battles. Fortunately, Saitama doesn't reach this level of entitlement. If anything, he is always in search of a battle that truly tests his limits, but there's no telling if he will actually find it.

2 He Has More Enemies Than Friends

In both life and anime, the title of the strongest person or the best at anything has its own hazards. One of those hazards is enemies or haters who yearn to see those people fail - especially the ones who have had their title quite some time. In One Punch Man, Saitama finds himself facing more foes than building alliances or making friends. And even when he's successfully defeated said villains, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of them throughout the show.

1 Ultimately, It Can Be Lonely At The Top

In the beginning, Saitama only has himself to depend on. It's through being by himself that he comes to the realization that there's no joy or excitement after achieving his dream of being the hero that he's always wanted to be. Although he comes to find a friend in Genos, it is only because Genos wishes to learn from Saitama. As One-Punch Man continues, Saitama is shown as more detached from his hero hobby but unable to share his conflicted feelings with anyone, most likely because no one else can truly understand or relate.
