One Punch Man is a pretty silly and ridiculous show, playing on the tropes of shonen manga while also buying into them wholeheartedly. One of the ways that the series does that is by creating characters who seem like the most over the top versions of trope characters that can appear in shonen manga, including the child genius.

Child Emperor is that child genius in One Punch Man, an S-rank class hero who is only 10 years old but who is one of the most successful heroes out there. Here are 10 facts that viewers may not know about Child Emperor.

10 S-Ranked For His Intelligence

Child Emperor is S-ranked first and foremost because of his intelligence. He can outthink most other heroes, including other S-class heroes who outclass him in the power department. He’s able to apply his intellect in any battle situation and to create technological advancements that can support him against just about any enemy, even those he’s so far only anticipated.

9 Brave Giant

Brave Giant is the mecha that Child Emperor has built and deployed in pieces around the city in order to use it at need whenever he needs it by summoning it.

Yusuke Murata, the artist of One Punch Man, initially thought the design for Brave Giant looked too much like all of the buildable, mass-produced mecha models already out there. Because of this, he redesigned the robot in order for it to look more original and to be something specific in design to One Punch Man.

8 Youngest Hero

Child Emperor is only 10 years old. This makes him the actual youngest member of the Hero Association. Despite his age, he is also ranked as S-class, which means that he is one of the most powerful members of the association as well, both because of his fighting prowess and because of his intelligence.

7 His Backpack Holds More Than It Should

Child Emperor wears a pretty normal Japanese style backpack when he’s in battle. It carries his gadgets as well as the legs that come out to carry him around, giving him more of an edge in battle.

But the bag isn’t actually that big, and it holds a lot more than it appears to be able to. This implies that Child Emperor might have been able to figure out a compression technology in order to make everything smaller in order to fit into the bag or to make the bag larger (on the inside) in order to hold more things.

6 He’s A Teacher

Child Emperor clearly outclasses his actual classmates, since he’s in elementary school and he’s smarter than all of them. So it makes sense that he would pass whatever knowledge on that he could. While he attends class as normal during the regular school day, in the afternoons after school, he is a teacher himself, sharing his knowledge with others.

It’s hard to believe since Child Emperor often seems arrogant and impatient amongst the heroes that he works with as part of the Heroes Association, but he’s actually very popular in school.

In fact, he’s so well-liked amongst his classmates that, at Christmastime, he received lots of invitations to Christmas parties from them.

4 Japanese Name

Child Emperor’s Japanese name is Dotei. This is a pretty normal name, but it’s also a double entendre, which should definitely not come as a surprise to anyone who watches One Punch Man. The name sounds like the Japanese phrase for “male virgin.” It’s not an inaccurate description of Child Emperor, who is, after all, a child in the series.

3 Pretty Durable

Child Emperor is definitely better known as a hero for being incredibly intelligent than as being a very strong hero. Still, he can hold his own in battle.

Despite the fact that he’s a pretty young boy and doesn’t seem to have any major physical attributes to speak of, he has shown himself able to hold his own against stronger enemies. He can even take some pretty powerful shots and still get up to continue fighting.

2 Has A Laboratory

Like many characters who are especially intelligent, Child Emperor’s intelligence especially manifests in an engineering capacity. He does great work on creating gadgets that serve him during battles. He actually has his own laboratory where he works on and experiments with these gadgets, giving him the space to create prototypes before testing them out in the field.

1 A Leader Of The S-Class

Child Emperor, while not physically as strong as many of the other S-class heroes, is smarter than just about all of them. This makes him a great person to have in battle. He often acts as a leader for other S-class heroes, when they’re willing to take orders, since he has a great mind for strategic thinking and is good at positioning any hero where they need to be in order for the battle to be successful. While not every hero is happy with having a child giving them orders, no one can deny that he’s great at creating a successful battle plan.
