The following contains spoilers for One-Punch Man Chapter 171, "Secret Info," by One, Yusuke Murata, John Werry and James Gaubatz, available in English via Viz Media.

One-Punch Man's titular main character is unlike any other shonen manga protagonist. He mostly dons a poker face and lacks any motivation to rid the world of evil. All he wants is to catch the biggest sale and save a few bucks -- but despite his peculiar personality, he has amassed a huge number of fans. The great contrast between his nonchalant demeanor and overpowered fighting ability has a unique charm to it, and is something his fanbase cannot get enough of. But no matter how large of a following Saitama accrues, one cyborg fanboy stands at the top.

Genos' admiration for Saitama goes a long way back. The two first met when a mosquito monster plagued the world of One-Punch Man. Back then, Genos was out to hunt it. The monster was unfortunate to stumble across Saitama, who was just out to run an errand. Genos initially attempted to protect the baldie from the monster, but he ended up almost self-destructing. That's when Saitama stepped in and defeated the foe, and ever since then, Genos became his pupil and No. 1 supporter.

Genos Forgets About His Master Saitama's Earliest Teaching

When Genos debuted in One-Punch Man, he was already a cyborg. He was strong enough to hold his ground against average monsters at the time, and continued to grow both as a fighter and a hero after becoming Saitama's pupil. No matter how strong he became, however, he seemed to have forgotten Saitama's earliest teaching -- to keep his explanation short and concise. But by doing so, he also made a few notable characters pay attention to Saitama's existence.

Since the war between the Monster Association and Hero Association has ended, the Class S heroes gathered for deliberation. They shared their recent discoveries, including info regarding Gods, Garo and the monsters. Since he was an S-Class hero, Genos was also in attendance and shared how Saitama was the key to stopping God. He confidently vouched for his master and even relayed the memories he got from the future. However, the others simply believed he had a few screws loose -- and the fact that he went on about it for hours did not help sell his narrative.

The Ripples of Genos' Testimonial in One-Punch Man 171

Although Genos' testimonial doesn't immediately convince the other top-ranking heroes, his status still holds great bearing. They don't immediately dismiss his claims, though they are a bit absurd-sounding. They try to think of a way to confirm it. Unfortunately, there is no viable way of doing that, since even Saitama has no recollection of these events. As such, they decide to cast the conversation aside for the time being. Since they are already moving forward to talking about Gods, Genos loses interest and leaves. He tells them to contact Saitama if there's any update from Blast.

While the heroes initially think Genos' story is a bit absurd, some of them have now shown interest in Saitama. Zombieman remembers what he learned about limiters. He recalls being told about someone who has broken through his limiter, though they've lost their hair in the process. Similarly, Flashy Flash reminisces on his time with Saitama. He believes Bald Cape may be a gem that requires a bit of polishing. Most shockingly, even Sweet Mask has started looking at Saitama's way, while mulling over his ideal hero. The only certainty for now is that One-Punch Man's titular character is finally getting some well-deserved traction.
