WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for One-Punch Man Season 2, Episode 10, "The Encircling Net of Justice," available now on Hulu.

Season 2 of One-Punch Man has revolved around a dire prophecy about monsters teaming up to overwhelm the heroes defending cities around the world and completely eradicating humanity in a behemoth-fueled apocalypse.

As the season has progressed, that prophecy has started to play out with startling accuracy as the creatures formed the Monster Association have led coordinated attacks on various heroes and  kidnapped the son of a high profile financier for the Hero Association. As the monsters retreat to regroup for another massive strike, they issue an ultimatum to the gathered executives behind the Hero Association that sets the two organizations on an epic collision course.

Picking up from the previous episode's cliffhanger ending, the gathered executives are confronted by Destrochloridum, a small, worm-like monster who has taken over the body of a younger executive to deliver a message from Gyoro-Gyoro, right-hand creature of Monster King Orochi.

After initially offering to create a world where humanity and monsters can coexist peacefully, Destrochloridum reveals this is just a cruel feint as he brutally shoots and kills another executive in the room. The murder is another ploy by the monsters to possess a powerful hero when S-Class hero Superalloy Blackluster enters to save the other board members from Destrochloridum.

True to his superhero title, Destrochloridum is unable to carry out his scheme due to Blackluster's impenetrable skin, which boasts Luke Cage-levels of durability, resulting in the worm monster's destruction. However, with a high-ranking executive killed and the Monster Association still on the loose with its high profile hostage, the gauntlet has been laid for the Hero Association to track the villainous organization down if they hope to rescue the boy and remain in their key sponsor's good graces.

News of the Monster Association's existence goes public, broadcast by news outlets all over the world, putting the general populace into a panic about the idea of the creatures that have attacked them for years banding together to create a sinister alliance that's far more threatening that simple mindless destruction. With both sides regrouping, a conflict between the two factions is inevitable though the heroes are aware their plans to rescue the hostage likely entails them walking directly into a trap.

The escalating incursions and assaults by the Monster Association so far in Season 2 had all been tentative moves to attack specific targets and test the might of the Hero Association.

With the stakes revealed and the possibility for peace and the idea of reconciliation between the two organizations evidently off the table as revealed by the executive's assassination, an all-out war really was the only logical way the two associations would meet each other en masse. And if the prophecy made at the beginning of the season is to be believed, things are not looking good for the Hero Association.

Fortunately, Orochi and the monsters may have underestimated their human opponents, since they're surprised by the death of one of their most powerful lieutenants in Gouketsu while the cybernetic hero Genos receives additional upgrades. And with Genos' mentor, Saitama, no longer distracted by his burgeoning interest in martial arts, the unassuming superhero will be the Hero Association's unwitting saving grace; a secret weapon so secret that not even the association knows about caped powerhouse they have dismissed all along.
