Whitebeard was once a member of the Four Emperors in the One Piece universe and regarded as the world's strongest man. A close rival of Gol D. Roger, he was powerful enough to contend with the forces of Marineford by himself, staving off the three admirals even despite the early betrayal he suffered from Squard.
Despite his immense durability and equally formidable offense, time has reduced Edward Newgate's capacity to fight beyond unfathomable levels. By identifying how well he'd fare against characters from other anime universes, we can determine to what extent he has been weakened.
10 COULD BEAT: Whitebeard Has Defeated Stronger Ice Users Than Todoroki (My Hero Academia)
Todoroki's greatest acclaim was his affinity with ice. A single attack could freeze the sides of entire buildings and even cover an arena in glacial spikes. In theory, this would give him a sufficient amount of force to pressure Newgate and defeat him.
However, Whitebeard has defeated enemies much stronger than Shoto, as evinced through how effortlessly he crushed Aokiji's offensive in the battle for Marineford. Given that the admiral's skills surpass the hero's, he'd be defeated instantly by the force of the Tremor-Tremor fruit.
9 WOULD LOSE TO: Kaguya's Dimensional Magic Provides A Problem Whitebeard Has No Answer To (Naruto)
Kaguya may be outclassed by Whitebeard in terms of strength and durability, but her jutsu provides an issue that Newgate couldn't hope to counter. A single application of her dimensional magic would send the pirate into a realm of lava or acid. And since he has no means of escaping, she could hypothetically leave him there.
Additionally, the spikes she is able to produce from her palms would be a perfect counter to his usually stellar defenses since they destroy all targets they connect with in seconds.
8 COULD BEAT: Netero Has A Massive Disadvantage In Strength & Durability (Hunter X Hunter)
As the most powerful member of the Hunter's Association, Netero and Whitebeard are paragons of their respective universes. Although the former's guanyin bodhisattva was strong enough to collapse an entire crypt and fast enough to stave off Meruem, neither would be sufficient in halting his opponent's advantage.
Should Newgate employ the Tremor-Tremor fruit, he'd be able to rip through Isaac's body, shrugging off whatever inconsequential blunt attacks he endures in the meantime.
7 WOULD LOSE TO: Baraggan's Senescence Would Compromise Whitebeard's Defenses (Bleach)
Baraggan was surrounded by a dense fog of decay that reduced anything that neared it into dust. This rendered him virtually unstoppable since ranged attacks became ineffective and melee strikes were too risky.
While Whitebeard's shockwaves may still have an effect on him (as energy itself cannot be disintegrated), Baraggan would only need to close the distance and use his respectable durability to survive in the meanwhile. Because Newgate has no idea about the nature behind his adversary's abilities, he couldn't hope to react appropriately before being reduced to nothingness. Ultimately, the Espada's aggression would enable a decisive victory.
6 COULD BEAT: Magellan Has Neither The Offense Nor The Mobility To Harm Whitebeard (One Piece)
Although absent in the battle for Marineford, Magellan was an enormously powerful devil fruit user whose venoms nearly killed Luffy. However, he suffers from many critical shortcomings that would spell his undoing.
Not only would Newgate be able to survive his poisons (as his base durability surpasses Blackbeard's, who in turn defeated him), his spear and armament Haki both evince that the villain's viscous body would not protect him or serve as a makeshift offensive boon.
5 WOULD LOSE TO: Grayroad Can Turn Whitebeard's Attacks Back Against Him (Seven Deadly Sins)
Grayroad of Passivism earned her title based on the nature of her curse. Anyone foolish enough to attempt harming her would be withered into a desiccated husk, providing the ultimate defensive countermeasure.
Since Whitebeard is both unaware of this ability and does not have any natural magical protections against it, it follows that he would either be forced to retreat or simply watch as she turns his men into demons and redirects their blades against him. Since Grayroad was able to survive being obliterated by Merlin's ice and shattered in all directions, it follows that the single attack Newgate could launch would not snuff her out, either.
4 COULD BEAT: Esdeath's Momentary Time Stop Wouldn't Save Her (Akame Ga Kill!)
Esdeath was powerful enough to create gigantic columns of ice in seconds, ones that shot up far into the sky. However, Whitebeard could crush her ice just as fast as she could create it through the force of his shockwaves.
While her ability to freeze time may prove moderately useful, there's nowhere she could stab that Whitebeard wouldn't be able to survive. He endured having much of his face incinerated by Akainu and two massive holes in his chest.
3 WOULD LOSE TO: Alucard Was Essentially Invincible Against Unsanctified Opponents (Hellsing)
While Whitebeard has advantages over Alucard in terms of strength, the vampire has durability higher even than the Emperor's own. He was virtually indestructible against non-sanctified attacks, a fact that even the Millennium Organization's Major was forced to acknowledge and prepare a contingency for accordingly.
The caliber of the vampire's attacks may not be enough to defeat Whitebeard instantly even when feasting on the blood of hundreds of humans, but he'd win a war of attrition due to the nature of his physiology and Newgate's ailing health.
2 COULD BEAT: Whitebeard Has Defeated Giants Like Eren In Seconds (Attack On Titan)
Whether using his War Hammer or skeletal form, there are no manifestations of Eren Yeager sufficient in defeating Whitebeard. The Emperor could shatter the stalagmites of the former as they arise and erupt the earthen plates beneath the latter to swallow his colossal armies into the earth.
Considering that he was powerful enough to collapse Marineford in moments, it follows that a fully rested Newgate could send a shockwave that would rip off Eren's head regardless of his hardening defenses.
1 WOULD LOSE TO: Diavolo Could Erase Any Damage Whitebeard Inflicts Against Him (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
Diavolo's Emperor Crimson Stand allowed him to perceive the next ten seconds and erase whatever he found undesirable. In practice, this means that he could blink across reality, ignoring Newgate's attacks as he delivers dozens of brutal strikes.
While a standard punch may not be sufficient to collapse Whitebeard immediately, he could employ this ability throughout the fight, wearing the Emperor down until he could no longer resist him. Diavolo may be outmatched in every conceivable physical quality, but his ability compensates for his weaknesses well.
