It takes more than just action and adventure to attract a core audience. If the audience isn't able to identify with the characters, then they're not exactly placing themselves within the story. Fortunately enough, One Piece is one of the most masterful Shonen narratives to have connected with its fanbase.
Whether it utilizes its deep themes of friendship or just crafts an incredibly unique yet humanized character, the One Piece gang carries some deep meaning for its fanbase. To drive that connection even deeper, this list will be looking through the Zodiac signs to see which One Piece character that you may be.
12 Aries (Mar 21-Apr 19): Monkey D. Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy is the definitive adventurer. Looking into the deep abyss with a cheerful smile and natural curiosity, Luffy takes on the world with a mound of ambition and openness for everything.
Such ambitions have allowed him to inspire and form his own crew, one which he'll fight tooth and nail for at the given. Aries are ruled by their drive and competitiveness and are likely to find some kinship with Luffy if not a new, friendly rival.
11 Cancer (Jun 21-Jul 22): Makino
Makino may not be out on the Grand Line fighting pirates or escaping Marine gunfire, but that doesn't mean that she hasn't touched the hearts of the people that do. Ace, Luffy, and Sabo have each found a caring hand from the den mother of Foosha Village whose smile and compassion helped nurture them in their younger years.
While they may have left the nest, Makino's love for them never ceases, and she'll laugh for their successes and cry for their losses. Cancers are kind and intuitive, qualities necessary for helping wrangle the future terrors of the sea.
10 Taurus (Apr 20-May 20): Nami
People may joke that Nami is the "real" captain of the Straw Hats, but that sentiment really does hold some weight. Like the Taurus, Nami is guiding and practically dragging the Straw Hats across the Grand Line.
She'll use her navigation ability to bring them across dark storms, and her powerful demeanor to get the crew into line. Taurus' are also prone to earthly desires, and Nami certainly likes to surround herself with those.
9 Leo (Jul 23-Aug 22): Emporio Ivankov
Emporio Ivankov is the king and queen of the jungle whose raucous roar helps spread passionate energy across all of nature. Ivankov not only has a distaste for subtlety but outright fights every muscle that tries to keep one's true self from showing.
In one way or another, Ivan will help people come out of their shell and shine like any other star. Leo's are known for being the center of attention and their drama; and with someone like Ivan in the room, it's hard to see anything less than powerful.
8 Gemini (May 21-Jun 20): Franky
Geminis are known as the energetic and inventive bunch of the Zodiac, and one would be hard-pressed to say that Franky is anything otherwise. Franky is literally bursting at the seams with both inventions and his own personality.
Whether this is due to the cola or his own ambition is up to anyone's guess, but there's no mystery as to where all that energy is going into. Franky is constantly either making changes to the Thousand Sunny or creating his next new, wacky invention. For the Geminis in the room, try and spitball ideas with the funky cyborg.
7 Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 22): Tony Tony Chopper
Virgo is the sign of nature and servitude, things that describes pretty well the Straw Hats' doctor/talking reindeer. Virgo's lookout for the well-being of every living creature and Chopper has a bleeding heart for friend and foe when it comes to his medical practice.
Though he was made to be an outcast of the world, he seeks to improve and serve it by searching for the cure for everything. This means that someone like Chopper is always watching, always analyzing, even if they themselves aren't very good at hiding that fact.
6 Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22): Nefertari Vivi
Nefertari Vivi is the caring princess of the Alabasta Kingdom. Her family is the only one of the original nobles that formed the World Government to abandon the status of Celestial Dragon to watch over their people personally, and Vivi portrays that spirit of altruism and leadership with every fiber of her being.
She cares about the fairness of her people and cries that they were in such despair under Crocodile's ruse. She cares about justice, enacting what is rightful and true for her people and against its traitors. Libras are all about keeping balance, and Vivi is doing a good job of doing that on the Grand Line's rocking waters.
5 Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): Trafalgar Law
Trafalgar Law's entire being is all about struggle and earning one's place in the world, something that Capricorns can find kinship with. His entire childhood was dedicated to humbling him beyond all means, and his current life builds from that, aspiring to correct the wrongs of his past and to build the future brick by brick.
He does so through careful and patient planning, admiring every detail while ready with a quick back up plan is there is so much as a crack. Much like any other Capricorn, Law is all about goals and is probably in need of a good break here and there.
4 Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): Roronoa Zoro
Roronoa Zoro is one of the most volatile characters of the Straw Hat Pirates. No one ever really knows what he's thinking, it takes quite a bit to earn his trust, and he's always ready to pounce on the nearest target.
Much like any Scorpio, Zoro emits fierce and intimidating energy that strikes fears into his enemies but, to his friends, is deeply loyal and always at the ready to protect what he loves.
3 Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18): Nico Robin
Nico Robin, since near birth, has always been an individual. Whether this was due to her eccentric family or her own curiosity for the archaeological word, Nico Robin could never have been confused with another child. She's spent years as a lone wolf working with and against different organizations all while vying for her own goals.
That doesn't mean, however, that she can't cooperate with a good team, but that it takes a stable, friendly family like the Straw Hats to keep someone like Robin in one place. She certainly has a versatile enough personality to interact with anyone. Even then, the Aquarius is an independent beast, and those like Robin are still pretty prone to walking off on their own when still around their friends.
2 Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): Gol D. Roger
There is rarely a bigger dreamer in the One Piece world than the King of the Pirates himself, Gol D. Roger. Roger is a man of adventure whose endless curiosity made him want to consume as much of the world as possible.
Such ambition tantalized those around him, and he helped inspire his own crew and even the world itself to go out and look for something bigger. The Sagittarius is a brilliant and jovial sign whose own reach hardly stretches further than Roger's iconic smile.
1 Pisces (Feb 19-March 20): Coby
People like Coby like to think outside the box and help other people. While Coby may have initially appeared weak and helpless, his hard work and determination helped drive him to become the protector of the people to this day. Even then, he doesn't let his values become corrupt by a rigid system.
Rather, he tends to tackle situations in a much more complex way and evaluates things as they come, seeing pirates not so much as natural villains but just people. The Pisces is a sign of inner-conflict, to either swim away from maddening reality or to get sucked up in a maelstrom of change. While those waves can seem harsh at first, take it from someone like Coby, who turned from a guppy to one of the sea's biggest fish.
