The engaging and enjoyable One Piece is among the best-written manga of all time. The series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, who wants to achieve his dream of becoming the Pirate King. Luffy was inspired by Shanks as a kid. After meeting Shanks, Luffy decided that he would also become a pirate.

It is fair to say this decision didn't go down too well with his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp. Luffy gathered crewmates and he is currently in Wano to take down Kaido. Most of us know that Luffy is going to end up as the Pirate King, but there are some things that might stop him from becoming so. In this post, we will be discussing five reasons why he will become Pirate King and five reasons why he won't.

10 Will: Recognition By Legends

Luffy is a man destined for greatness. One Piece fans know that Luffy will achieve his dream in the end by any means. At the start of the series, Luffy met Shanks and after seeing Luffy's resolve Shanks immediately recognized his potential. Shanks sacrificed his arm to save Luffy from the Sea King.

Another instance was when Whitebeard met Luffy at Marineford. Whitebeard was impressed with Luffy's grit and he ordered the Whitebeard Pirates to give their all to help Luffy as he would be able to save Ace from being executed.

9 Won't: Shortened Lifespan

Before we start with the reasons that show Luffy won't become Pirate King, it is obvious that are very few things that could actually stop Luffy from becoming the Pirate King, and this will feel like nitpicking (so bear with me).

One of the reasons that could prevent Luffy from becoming Pirate King could be his health. Previously, Luffy stated that Gear 2nd harmed his body and we have seen him using it a lot. This could likely be a factor though things might have changed after the time skip. Also, we know for sure that Luffy lost 10 years of his life due to the Emporio Healing Hormones.

8 Will: The 5th Yonko

After Whole Cake Island, Luffy saw a massive surge in his bounty. His bounty increased to an astounding 1.5 Billion beris. The rise in his bounty led to people calling him the "Fifth Yonko."

Luffy fought and defeated Charlotte Katakuri at Whole Cake Island and disrupted the balance of things at Totto Land. He was a nuisance for the Big Mom Pirates. Luffy's strength has increased and it is obvious that it is only going to increase from here on out.

7 Won't: Too Many Enemies

Luffy is different from regular pirates. He does not enjoy torturing people for his own gain. He has fought against many famous pirates so far in the series and made enemies out of them. He has been recognized as a threat by the World Government and other pirates.

The more Luffy progresses, the more enemies he gains. Sooner or later, these enemies will put their squabbles aside and join hands to take down Luffy. This is inevitable and most likely Luffy will require a lot of help to wriggle out of such a problem.

6 Will: Strength

From being a novice pirate who sailed in a barrel for days to becoming one of the strongest characters in the series and the leader of his own Grand Fleet, Luffy surely has come a long way. He has improved his control over his devil fruit and he has also gained mastery over Haki, which is now among the strongest in the series.

At Wano, Luffy unlocked Ryou, which is a type of Armament Haki and it has only been used by a few characters. Luffy will keep on getting stronger and towards at end of Wano, he will take a giant leap towards becoming the Pirate King.

5 Won't: Reckless

One of the best qualities that Luffy has is being reckless. No fan hates this part of Luffy, but it should be kept in mind that rushing into every situation is not advisable. It can definitely lead to consequences that Luffy or any other person wouldn't want to face.

Luffy has already got into trouble with Kaido at Wano. When Kaido attacked the Straw Hats with Boro Breath, Luffy lost it completely.  He attacked Kaido and even managed to land a hit on him. But, Kaido was just drunk and the hit only made him sober. Kaido proceeded to knock out Luffy with just one hit.

4 Will: Most Dangerous Power

Many people believe that when it comes to gaining power, only Haki and devil fruits are important on the seas. However, they are much mistaken. Luffy possesses the greatest power on the seas and it is not his devil fruit or Haki control. It is his power to attract other people to follow him.

This was stated by Dracule Mihawk, who said that Luffy had a unique ability to drive people towards him. This is how Luffy makes allies and this is the reason why even Luffy's enemies respect him. Katakuri's fight versus Luffy is one example of Luffy getting respect from enemies.

3 Won't: Over Reliance

Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. The crew has become a lot more powerful since their first-ever adventure. All the crew members have improved in their fields of specialization. Luffy has Zoro and Sanji as his two best fighters, who are more or less equal. The other crew members are amazing as well.

Luffy knows that he can rely on his crew to help him out. His reliance on the crew can hinder his dream of becoming Pirate King. Luffy might choose to depend on his crew instead of improving his own skills, which could seriously hinder his development.

2 Will: An Excellent Crew

The Straw Hat Crew, One Piece

Luffy's crew loves him. Everyone respects Luffy as their captain and it fairly obvious that they are willing to put their lives on the line for him. Zoro and Sanji will stop anyone who dares to intercept Luffy's path. We have countless examples of their loyalty.

Back at Thriller Bark, Sanji and Zoro were both ready to take all of Luffy's pain. Luffy has the best navigator in Nami, Robin is the only person who can read poneglyphs, Chopper is an excellent doctor and Franky is an amazing shipwright. Also, no one can forget Brook, who was the MVP of Whole Cake Island arc along with Sanji.

1 Won't: Swimming

One of the more bizarre reasons, but a reason nonetheless. Luffy's inability to swim has put him in difficult situations, and it might be a worry for him in the future.

According to many theories, Laugh Tale could be underwater. If there is no one to coat the Thousand Sunny then Luffy won't be able to reach the final island.
