Many people would definitely be surprised by this inclusion, but Doflamingo really had a difficult past a kid. His family left Mary Geoise and decided to live amongst the common people. However, the hatred of the common people was clearly visible. Doflamingo, Corazon and their father were hung on a wall and arrows were shot at them.

They were only saved by Doflamingo's Conqueror's Haki. Doflamingo's mother died due to a lack of medication and food. Doflamingo was beaten up and left to starve several times as a kid.

9 Boa Sisters

Hancock and her sisters were enslaved in Mary Geoise by the World Nobles. They were given devil fruits to entertain the World Nobles. They were only saved by Fisher Tiger's courage.

Fisher Tiger went to Mary Geoise and attacked the World Nobles and freed all the slaves. He even altered the mark of slavery on their bodies by turning it into the mark of Sun Pirates.

8 Kozuki Momonosuke

Kozuki Momonosuke is one of the key members of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance. He is the son of Kozuki Oden, who was the daimyo of Kuri. Momonosuke's childhood was ruined by Kaido and Orochi.

The two somehow managed to take over Wano. After beating Oden, Kaido put in a pot of Oden soup. Momonosuke was sent to the future by his mother. He had to suffer all these hardships as a kid.

7 Nami

Nami's past is quite tragic. She was taken in by Belle-mere when she was just a little girl. Nami, Nojiko, and Belle-mere were all very happy while living together. However, their lives would change when the Arlong Pirates paid Cocoyashi Village a visit.

They threatened to kill anyone who refused to pay up. Belle-mere only had enough money for her two daughters, so she ended up being killed. Nami was used by Arlong to make maps and gather treasure.

6 Chopper

Chopper was an outcast. He was discarded by his own herd for being odd. Chopper was taken in by Dr. Hiriluk. Chopper idolized Hiriluk and he considered him his best friend. After seeing Hiriluk's waning health, Chopper grew concerned and set out to find a cure.

What Chopper found was a poisonous mushroom and he almost lost his life while trying to find it. After seeing Chopper's dedication and his condition, Hiriluk ate the mushroom even though he knew that he would die from eating it.

5 Sanji

The chef of the Straw Hats had a very depressing past. A lot of people can relate to Sanji. He was bullied by his own siblings because he was more humane than them. Sanji was kind and he cared about everyone, so he was an easy target for them. He was disowned and locked up by his own father.

Vinsmoke Judge went as far as to say that Sanji was a failure. Sanji's only reprieve from the trouble was cooking and his mother. However, she also died due to taking the aftermath of the medicine that she took. Sanji ran away from his family with the help of his sister, Vinsmoke Reiju.

4 Portgas D. Ace

Not many people can boast of a legacy like Ace. He was the son of the Pirate King, the man who was feared throughout the world. Ace was the only son of Gol D. Roger. Roger died well before Ace's birth.

Ace's mother, Rouge, died after giving birth to him. Ace hated himself for being born because of the way people treated him. Everyone hated Roger and the World Government feared him because he knew the true history. Naturally as Ace was Roger's son, they hated him as well. Ace's life stabilized only after he met Luffy and Sabo.

3 Nico Robin

Known as the "Devil Child," Nico Robin had a terrible life. She is from Ohara, which was involved in a tragedy. The scholars of the land did the unthinkable and started to decipher the Poneglyphs. Robin too learned this skill. After the World Government uncovered the truth about the scholars, a buster call was commenced and the entire island was destroyed. There were no survivors except for Robin.

Robin lost everyone that she knew. She saw her mother for the first time at Ohara during the Buster Call. She couldn't even get a proper reunion. Then all her life, she was chased by people who wanted to hand her over to the World Government due to the bounty on her head. She was finally safe when she joined the Straw Hats.

2 Brook

Imagine watching all your loved ones dying before your own eyes. Imagine living with corpses of all the people that you loved. Imagine sailing the sea with only despair in your heart. Brook's backstory is arguably the most heartbreaking. He was a part of Rumbar Pirates many years ago.

During an intense clash versus another pirate crew, the Rumbar Pirates lost their lives. All of them died except Brook, who came back to life with the help of his devil fruit. Brook was forced to wander alone on the seas with no companion. It was only him and the memories of his crewmates.

1 Trafalgar Law

Corazon near death in One Piece.

It was difficult choosing the saddest backstory in One Piece, but Law's backstory is saddest in the series. Law lived in Flevance which was also known as the "White City." The city was known for Amber Lead, but the place soon became infected with the Amber Lead poisoning. The city was completely wiped out. Law's parents were killed before his own eyes.

His little sister also died. With no hope for survival, Law left Flevance and went to Spider Miles where he met Corazon and Doflamingo. Corazon helped to cure Law. Law loved Corazon and he thought of him as a father. But, it wasn't long before tragedy struck again. Corazon was brutally killed by his own brother and Law was once again left alone.
