One Piece's large, open sea may be full of potential, but its deep and rapid waters create more isolation than togetherness. This is a cruel world where only a few people can climb on the lifeboat, whereas the rest is left to drown. The pirating world is one built on trust and loyalty, and a crew is only as strong as that bond between crewmates.

There are plenty of dream team-ups in the One Piece world that many fantasize could take on any tide. However, for every dream team, there is a nightmare couple following behind. Differing morals, alliances, and a harsh past could break everything but the tension between two people. This list will be looking at a few team-ups in One Piece that could weather the storm and a few that would definitely get swept up.

10 Need To See: Vegapunk And Franky

While the origins and intentions of Dr. Vegapunk currently remain unknown, one can still sense some kinship between him and the mad scientist of the Straw Hat Pirates. Vegapunk was a boy genius from Karakuri Island whose intellect and achievements have been revered since a young age.

Franky was a technical rough house who only dreamed of building ships with really big guns on them. They have varying technical backgrounds but still have a similar ambition for what's possible in science. These two really need to get in the same lab or garage together and create something really cool. Franky would also have to explain what he did to Vegapunk's labs.

9 Never Will: Kid And Apoo

Eustass Kid and Scratchmen Apoo were already an odd couple during their debut. Clashing eyes while in a bar on Sabaody Archipelago, the two immediately got into a fight that threatened to bring in the Marines. Despite this shaky start, Kid was still confident enough in Apoo's abilities to call him in for an alliance around the time of the Punk Hazard Arc.

However, as one would have it, Apoo was already part of another alliance. He was a secret agent for the Animal Kingdom Pirates and gave away Kid's location to Kaido himself. While the prospect between these two strong fighters seemed ideal, it probably wouldn't work out after Apoo got Kid jailed in Wano.

8 Need To See: Zoro And Jinbei

When Jinbei first expressed his interest in joining the Straw Hat Pirates, many fans became concerned about what his dynamic on their ship may be like. That isn't to say that he would fight with the other Straw Hats, but his entire demeanor just screams loyal and wise confidant, i.e. the proper makings of a first mate.

That title, in the minds of the fans, belongs to Roronoa Zoro. There really needs to be a close interaction between the two in the future to show how these two interact and who really deserves to be Luffy's right-hand man. It would also be fun to see them talk about their personal experiences with Hawkeye Mihawk.

7 Never Will: Shanks And Blackbeard

Archenemies are not a consistent thing in One Piece. The series typically sticks to a few villains per arc, and those villains go away by the end of the arc. This has had the effect of keeping the Straw Hats from having a consistent rivalry. However, that doesn't mean blood feuds are absent in other parts of the world.

The main feud in the pirating world seems to be between one of the youngest Emperors, "Red-Haired" Shanks and the man who usurped Whitebeard, "Blackbeard" Marshall D. Teach. Because of an accident that resulted in his iconic scar, Shanks has been working to warn pirates and perhaps even the World Government about Blackbeard. While a lot of people probably want Blackbeard's head, Shanks is likely at the front of the line to doing so.

6 Need To See: Garp And Sengoku

While they may not initially look like teammates, Garp and Sengoku are colleagues from the same generation of Marines that tackled Gol D. Roger's rise in infamy. Garp seemed to be the adventurous maverick that would always shoot to his own command, and Sengoku was the pencil-pushing stickler who always followed the rules.

Despite their different approaches, they both eventually found their way to the top of the Marines. While there's currently a change in the regime, it would be great to see these two geezers show what old men can do, all while having their classic rapport.

5 Never Will: Garp And Akainu

Garp and Akainu One Piece

Even though Garp may get along well with the previous Fleet Admiral, he probably won't be as nice to the current one. Akainu aligns himself with the same authority that Garp hates more than anything else and used those same connections and his own brute strength to rise to Fleet Admiral. However, what may really keep these two apart is their very different relationship with one Portgas D. Ace.

Garp raised Ace like his very own grandson, yet he had to see Akainu mercilessly kill the boy in front of his own eyes. Despite their shared affiliation, Garp nearly abandoned his uniform to strike Akainu down. Akainu, on the other hand, probably wouldn't work that well with a Marine who clearly fraternizes with pirates, especially one who raised the Pirate King's son.

4 Need To See: Boa Hancock, Nami, And Nico Robin

While the gender affiliation is obvious, this team-up needs to happen just to see Boa Hancock's reaction. After Boa Hancock fell in love with the Straw Hat captain, she was shocked to find that there was possible competition within his own ship. Though this seemed ludicrous to Luffy, fans have been shipping him with both Nami and Nico Robin for years.

Seeing his two top girls have to put up with the constant jealousy of the Pirate Empress would be incredibly hilarious. It would also just be really cool to see the three most popular girls in the series fight alongside each other.

3 Never Will: Nami And Arlong

Despite having forgiven Hachi long ago, Nami's sentiments probably wouldn't change as easily for his old captain. Arlong was a Fishman who decided to transfer all of his hate and insecurities from childhood to Nami's poor village. When he landed on Cocoyashi Village, he set his sights on treating the humans as miserably as possible, and that meant taking away Nami's entire childhood.

Nami already has a pretty interesting and shifting relationship with the Fishmen going on, but that doesn't mean that she'd easily shake the hand that murdered her mother.

2 Need To See: Foxy And Buggy

While One Piece already has a pretty eccentric and funny world, it tried its hand at keeping a recurring gag villain. Its first attempt was Buggy the Clown, who'd team with Alvida and, much later, Mr. 3 to hunt down treasure and the Straw Hat Pirates. The series' other attempt at making a Team Rocket was Foxy the Silver Fox.

He's a similar type of cheat as Buggy but used his trickery to amass a giant crew via the Davy Back Fight. Given their similar hatred for the Straw Hats and eccentric personalities, it's a wonder that these two haven't teamed up sooner.

1 Never Will: Luffy And Saint Charloss

Luffy's Decision To Punch Charloss Changed The Entire World

What does one think of when they think of the worst team-up possible? Does one use differing values? How about counter-intuitive talents? What about bad history? Fortunately for Monkey D. Luffy and Saint Charloss, they get to have all of the above and thus rank as one of the worst possible team-ups in One Piece. Saint Charloss is everything that Luffy hates.

He's a spoiled man-child who abuses his power and cries about every little thing. Luffy, on the other hand, is probably in each of Charloss' nightmares. It's hard to imagine a single situation where these two would team-up let alone one that keeps Luffy out of jail and Charloss out of the hospital.
