Nico Robin was the archeologist for the Straw Hat pirates. First introduced in One Piece's Alabasta Arc, she remains the most enigmatic and charming member of the crew.

However, there are dozens of instances where Robin's presence has been a direct downside for Luffy. Her refusal to explain herself placed the crew in grave peril, even if it is somewhat justified by her traumas and insecurities. Through identifying Robin's worst moments, it becomes easier to determine if she's a greater nuisance than an asset as One Piece goes into its final chapters.

10 Nico Robin Was A Former Member Of Baroque Works

Robin as Miss All Sunday in One Piece.

Nico Robin comes with a heavy amount of baggage. She was a former member of Baroque Works who known as Miss All Sunday, serving as Crocodile's right-hand woman and the key to his plan's success.

During Luffy's final battle against the warlord, Robin found his courage admirable and decided she'd join his crew. Most of the Straw Hats were surprisingly receptive to their new teammate — only Zoro was skeptical that she might not be trustworthy in spite of her actions to take Crocodile out.

9 Robin Almost Got Luffy Killed To Aokiji

When Aokiji heard of Robin's new crew, he immediately moved against her. The towering admiral confronted his Straw Hat targets outside of Water Seven and requested that she follow him.

Understandably, Luffy did not want to surrender his friend to the World Government's malevolent clutches. However, his decision to fight on Robin's behalf almost got him killed, especially since he didn't have armament haki to counter the marine with. Were it not for Chopper's medical expertise, both Robin and Luffy would have died for the former's reputation.

8 Robin Briefly Joined The Foxxy Pirates

Luffy fought a Davy Back Game against the Foxxy pirates. Its rules were simple; whoever won a given match would be able to claim a member from the opposing crew.

Nico Robin was selected after the Straw Hats' second defeat. Unlike Chopper, she was unusually okay with being separated from her friends and did not protest joining Foxxy. On the contrary, she led him on in such a way that the pseudo villain found her charming. Robin's resignation to leaving the Straw Hats may have foreshadowed her disappearance during the Water Seven Arc.

7 Nico Robin Attacked & Almost Killed Pell

Robin versus Pell in One Piece.

As Miss All Sunday, Nico Robin came to face Alabasta guardian Pell. She used her Devil Fruit in order to pacify him, breaking his body against her numerous arms. This wasn't the only instance of her villainy — she also prevented reinforcements from assisting Luffy against Crocodile.

Should Robin have been successful in keeping Pell unconscious, no one would have been able to redirect Crocodile's bomb from the center of the city at the conclusion of the fight. Therefore, Robin would have been directly responsible for the death of an entire nation's capital.

6 Robin Relied On Kyros In The Battle Against Diamante

Diamante's Ripple-Ripple Fruit in One Piece.

Near the conclusion of the Dressrosa incident, Robin and Kyros faced off against Diamante. As he unleashed the power of his Devil Fruit, however, only the latter ended up fighting.

Instead of assisting Kyros in battle, Robin protected Rebecca by creating a makeshift "tree" of Devil Fruit limbs. However, considering that she shares whatever damage they take, the shrapnel still caused her a considerable amount of injury. In the end, Robin was one of the only Straw Hats to be marginalized for the sake of a side character.

5 Nico Robin Didn't Advance Much After The Timeskip

Nico Robin in One Piece.

Nico Robin arguably advanced the least of the Straw Hats ever since the timeskip. Although this might be attributed to her lack of a mentor, even the self-taught members of the crew — namely Chopper, Franky, and Brook — progressed more than she did.

The only new talent Robin developed was the ability to increase the size of her Devil Fruit limbs and, later, to clone herself. However, both the limbs and her clone still reflect whatever damage they receive back to her.

4 Robin Framed The Straw Hats To The Galley La Company

Robin assisted Lucci in an attempt to assassinate Iceberg. Though his memories were foggy, he specifically remembered seeing her face and incriminated the rest of the Straw Hats as a result.

Consequently, Luffy and his friends were forced to run away from an angry mob over a crime that they did not commit. Since the Going Merry was already falling apart, they never would have been able to procure a ship for their journeys if they failed to correct Robin's heinous mistake. Fortunately, the crew was exonerated before the perilous trip to Enies Lobby.

3 Robin Was Useless In The Fight Against Oars

Luffy versus Oars in One Piece.

Oars was a gargantuan zombie resurrected by Gecko Moria. With his body and Luffy's shadow, the warlord hoped to return to relevance on the global stage.

While the Straw Hats fought against the monster valiantly, the best Robin could do was whisk her allies out of harm's way. Although her limbs are deadly against reasonably sized opponents, they had no way of causing damage to the monster. Consequently, Robin lost the ability to prove herself in one of the Straw Hats' only united fights.

2 Robin Got Exposed By Orochi's Elite Guard

Oniwabanshu in One Piece.

When the Straw Hats posed as Wano locals, it was their job to keep a low profile while learning as much as they could about the country. Robin assumed the role of a geisha and managed to infiltrate Orochi's courts. However, she got discovered relatively quickly and was soon beset by the Oniwabanshu.

Were it not for Brook's unexpected rescue and the shinobi's excessive superstition about dark spirits, Robin would have been captured and interrogated until compelled to share the Straw Hats' whereabouts. Though she escaped, her failure put a great emphasis on Luffy's presence in the country.

1 Robin Almost Got Everyone Killed By Following Spandam To Enies Lobby

Robin crying at Enies Lobby in One Piece.

Robin agreed to follow Spandam so that he wouldn't use the buster call on her friends. However, there were two flaws with her logic — not only did it assume that Spandam would keep his word, but it also suggested that Luffy wouldn't simply follow her in spite of the risks.

The result was a perilous showdown that ultimately declared the Straw Hats as enemies of the World Government. It also put them in considerable danger, with Luffy fighting so hard that he was literally paralyzed by the time he defeated Lucci.
