Known as the "Devil Child," the "Light of the Revolution," and formerly "Miss All Sunday," Nico Robin is one of the most fashionable characters in the One Piece series. The Straw Hat Pirate is a woman that has been all around, being first introduced as the vice president of Baroque Works before joining Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as their resident archaeologist.

When it comes to One Piece, it's not usual for the main characters to change outfits, and Nico Robin is no exception. Much like the other main characters throughout the series, she's been through her fair share of fashion do's and don'ts, some of which were much more memorable than others.

Updated on November 4, 2022 by Kennedy King: One Piece is finally moving into its final saga after over 25 years of publication, signaling the beginning of the end for the highest-grossing anime/manga franchise of all time. Because of its longevity, the Straw Hat Pirates — including Nico Robin — have all enjoyed numerous outfit changes along their journey. Although some are much more beloved than others, fashion-heavy characters like Robin continuously provide noteworthy outfits for fans to enjoy.

2 Nico Robin's Best Outfits

Opening 16

Nico Robin during Opening 16 of One Piece

Out of all the One Piece openings, none were more complimentary for Nico Robin than Opening 16. Although understated, the outfit that she's wearing looks superb on her. The simple gardening aesthetic lends itself to the beloved archeologist, who clearly knows how to wear a sunhat.

Although Robin's appearance in her Opening 16 costume is brief, the recurring nature of openings allows fans to enjoy her outfit for over 35 episodes. The outfit changes seen in opening sequences are usually fairly innocuous, so this one is definitely worth taking note of.

First Heart Of Gold Outfit

In the One Piece TV Special "Heart of Gold," the first Nico Robin outfit fans see is easily one of her best looks. This special takes place post-timeskip, so her iconic shades are there. She's also rocking her new hair with the addition of a new winter coat and purple turtleneck sweater, both of which fit the character perfectly.

Robin's "Heart of Gold" clothes result in an outfit that quietly conveys the personality of her character to fans, providing something that even the most die-hard fans of One Piece can appreciate. Much like Robin, it is quiet and reserved — plus, the purple fits her really well.

Enies Lobby Outfit

Nico Robin during the events of One Piece's Enies Lobby arc

Nico Robin's iconic leather dress from the Enies Lobby is the star of the arc, and it makes her look as badass as ever. In what is quite possibly the most serious One Piece arc pre-Paramount War, the archeologist dons the most mature outfit worn by any Straw Hat Pirate during the entire series. In addition to the leather dress, Robin sports a polka-dotted undershirt and, to top it all off, thigh-high leather boots.

This outfit is another that really fits her character in both personality and appearance. Robin is much older than the first seven members of the Straw Hat Pirates, so it is only fitting that her most significant arc highlights this fact by providing her with a mature and edgy costume.

Alabasta Outfit

Nico Robin during One Piece's Alabasta arc

While Nico Robin is now an established member of the Straw Hat Pirates, that was not always the case. Back in her Baroque Works days, Robin donned an outfit that resembles a cowgirl, complete with a hat, corset, and high-heel boots. All this is brought together by a gorgeous fur-lined white trench coat.

It's a shame that fans only see this outfit during part of the Alabasta arc. It's clearly one of Robin's best outfits, and it provides the perfect introduction to her enigmatic character. Hopefully, this costume will return as a possible alternate outfit in a One Piece game someday.

Post-Timeskip Outfit

One Piece's two-year timeskip ushers in a huge period of change for the Straw Hat Pirates, and as a result, fans were clamoring to see the changes made to their designs. Nico Robin's post-timeskip appearance benefits from one of the best outfits that she wears in the entire series.

With her flowing sundress and trademark shades, Nico Robin makes it clear that her relaxed demeanor hasn't changed whatsoever during her time off-screen. However, she doesn't lose her edge, thanks in large part to her blue leather jacket that harkens back to her appearance during the Enies Lobby arc.

1 Nico Robin's Worst Outfits

Thriller Bark

Nico Robin as she appears during One Piece's Thriller Bark arc

In the Thriller Bark arc, Nico Robin is fitted in a very short purple dress edged with lacing, stockings, and black-heeled boots. It's a very simple outfit that isn't horribly unappealing, but when coupled with the sullen atmosphere of Thriller Bark, it really starts to fall apart from a design standpoint.

Occasionally, Nico Robin makes the outfit look great. But more often than not, it just comes off as a bit drab. While this could partially be due to Robin's history of fantastic outfits, her Thriller Bark costume is still not much to write home about in the most favorable of lights.

Pirate Warriors 3 DLC Outfit

Nico Robin in One Piece Pirate Warriors 3's DLC

For paid content, Nico Robin's Pirate Warriors 3 DLC outfit sure does leave her die-hard fans wishing for more. While it is a bit of a love letter to the father Musou series Samurai Warriors, the Straw Hats' archeologist deserved a much better outfit than the lackluster one she wears in-game.

This costume looks like the game's developers took a few pre-made assets and threw them on Robin for a quick and easy outfit. By itself, her Pirate Warriors 3 appearance would be pretty bad, but considering it costs players money to wear, it's easily one of the worst in the franchise.

Third Film Z Outfit

Between Robin and Nami's horrible Film Z outfits, the design team really dropped the ball when it came to designing something strong and memorable for the two women. It's easy to see what they were going for with this outfit, but something really must have been lost in translation.

Robin's third outfit in Film Z legitimately looks like what happens when someone lets a child dress a toy doll that they have hundreds of outfits for. From the jacket to the bikini top, the hat, the fuzz on the back, and the mix-match colors, this outfit is absolutely brutal on the eyes.

One Piece Unlimited Cruise Alternate Outfit

Even the most die-hard One Piece fans probably don't know about Nico Robin's outfit from the One Piece: Unlimited Cruise video game. Minus the purple color scheme, this costume has virtually nothing going for it. It seems more appropriate for a series like Yu-Gi-Oh! than the sea-faring franchise it appears in.

There are sights for sore eyes, and there are sights that cause sore eyes — this outfit is the second option. Luckily for fans, its damage is limited to non-canon material.

Unlimited Adventure Alternate Outfit

Nico Robin in her alternate outfit from One Piece: Unlimited Adventure

Nico Robin's outfit in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure has to be the worst offender of all time when it comes to her bad outfits. Similar to her horrible hated outfit from One Piece: Unlimited Cruise, this look just doesn't fit her character, period.

One Piece video games are never intended to be taken too seriously, but in this case, perhaps the developers should have put a bit more thought into Nico Robin's appearance. Her Unlimited Adventure legitimately might lead someone to think the design is from some sort of One Piece-Final Fantasy crossover.
