Details concerning the live-action series have been slow to come. Netflix ordered a 10-episode series back in 2020, but it wasn't until November 2021 that Netflix announced its main cast members: Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp and Taz Skylar portraying Sanji, with actor Peter Gadiot playing pirate captain Red-Haired Shanks.

But while this is the first time audiences have seen Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates, this is not technically the first look they have had at the world of the show. Netflix previously offered a glimpse at it all during Netflix Geeked Week in 2022. A short clip revealed settings including the Going Merry, the Straw Hat Pirates' beloved first sailing vessel; the Miss Love Duck, Iron Mace Alvida's flagship; and the Baratie, the floating restaurant.

One Piece Draws the Eyes of Hollywood

The series has fans all over and that includes some of the stars of Hollywood, such as Jamie Lee Curtis, who has lobbied for a role in the Netflix series. The actor previously said she would want to play Nico Robin or Kureha in the show. Shortly after she expressed interest, Curtis became a popular fancasting choice on the Internet.

Curtis' own daughter, Ruby Guest, was very supportive of her mother. On the One Piece podcast, Guest explained, "I would be 100% for it and I honestly, since Netflix is doing the live-action adaptation, I would highly recommend her to pull some strings to see if she can."

Netflix's One Piece is scheduled to be released some time in 2023.
