WARNING: The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1012 by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English now from Viz Media.

One Piece's Chapter #1012 follows quite a few different characters, but the true standout of this chapter has to be the Straw Hats' reliable navigator, Nami. After recently claiming third place in the worldwide popularity poll, such a triumphant moment in this chapter really cements Nami as a badass.

Chapter #1012 follows the hotbed of chaos that is Onigashima's second floor, opening with Big Mom knocking Page One flat with a single punch. The Yonko directs all her wrath against Kaido's men for burning Tama's village down after they had shown her such kindness. To make matters worse, Page One's older sister and fellow Tobiroppo, Ulti, witnessed Big Mom's attack on her younger brother and refuses to let it slide.

Nami and Usopp try to take advantage of having two of their biggest enemies fight each other, but it seems neither Big Mom nor Ulti have completely forgotten how much they hate the Straw Hats. This leads to a hilarious series of panels of Nami trying to keep Ulti and Big Mom's scorn directed at each other and off of herself and Usopp, which fails miserably.

When that falls through, the pair try to escape with Tama on Komachiyo, but Ulti is the first to react when they try to escape. Ricocheting off the walls, the Pachycephalosaurus hybrid uses her Ulti Mortar to stop the Lion-Dog, with devastating results. Ulti and Page One had been chasing Komachiyo since it and Tama saved Usopp and Nami from the Tobiroppo siblings beforehand. Ulti kick Komachiyo while it's down, reveling in its defeat.

However, the young kunoichi, Tama, rushes to protect her friend, despite the terrified tears running down her face. Ulti, however, has no sympathy for her, as she strikes Tama down with no regard. This sparks a reaction from both Nami and Big Mom, but Ulti doesn't waver even in the face of the giant Yonko.

But surprisingly, it's not Big Mom who retaliates against Ulti, but Nami, as she knocks the Beast Pirate away with a thunderbolt. When Usopp points out that now's the time to escape, Nami refuses. With an expression filled with determination and wrath, Nami decides to stay and give Ulti the beating of a lifetime.

Compassion for children has always been a part of Nami's character, something she most certainly inherited from her adopted mother, Belle-mere. Nami showed this same compassion in looking after the Shandian girl, Aisha, in Skypiea, and in Punk Hazard when she was adamant about saving the children used in Cesear Clown's experiments. This time is no different, and Nami's never been one to sit back when truly angry, so it's not altogether surprising that Ulti's ruthlessness has earned her a beatdown. The navigator has been long overdue for her own solo fight and, being against the prideful and aggressive Ulti, should result in a more than excellent battle.
