Are fans abandoning Eiichiro Oda's iconic One Piece manga? The answer is yes according to new data.

As reported by Anime Senpai, a recent poll by the popular Japanese website All About News revealed the "most dropped series by fans." One Piece took the undesirably top spot on the poll, which ran from Oct. 17 until Nov. 8 and had only 376 participants. The reasons people gave for their waning interest included the length of fight sequences, the number of gag elements and the highly detailed illustrations.

Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan and Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen tied for second on the list of most dropped manga. Other notable series that cracked the top fifteen are Tite Kubo's Bleach, Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto, Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter, Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball and Takeshi Obata's Death Note.

One Piece Is Still a Massive Success

Oda first published his One Piece manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997 and the ongoing series has produced well-over 1,000 individual chapters. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate captain who has a rubber body and dreams of becoming the next King of the Pirates, as he and his colorful crew sail across the Grand Line, searching for the titular hidden treasure. While some readers may drop One Piece partway through, many more adore Oda's masterpiece; with over 516 million copies in circulation worldwide, One Piece is by far the best-selling manga of all time.

Moreover, the manga isn't the only successful part of the long-running, multimedia franchise. The latest movie, One Piece Film: Red, premiered in Japan in August and in most Western markets in November. On its opening day in the United States, the title surpassed the DC Universe's Black Adam in terms of box office sales. So far, Film Red has earned over 18 billion yen (roughly $180 million) at the global box office, making it currently Japan's highest-grossing movie of 2022.

A wealth of collectibles and products based on Oda's pirate series have also been recently released by multiple notable brands. VANS has launched a new One Piece apparel line of shoes, t-shirts, hoodies and more that feature iconography from One Piece like the Straw Hats Pirates' Jolly Roger and Wanted Posters. Similarly, Lush stores in the United States are now selling Devil Fruit-themed bath bombs.

The One Piece manga is distributed in English by Madman Entertainment and VIZ Media.
