Netflix's live-action One Piece series provides a close look at the iconic ship in a new poster.

The streaming company released a key visual for the upcoming series, as reported by The Direct. It provides a firm look at the Straw Hat Pirates' classic ship, the Going Merry. The poster prominently features a front-angle view of the sea-faring vehicle, focusing on the iconic sheep's head seen in Eiichiro Oda's manga and the Toei Animation anime.

The poster gives fans a detailed look at the live-action version of the ship. Below the sheep's head is a bow-side cannon facing directly toward the camera. Additionally, the iconic Jolly Roger, the symbol of the Straw Hat Pirates, is also pictured on the ship's sails. Overall, the poster depicts a version of the boat that is very accurate to the source material. It also includes a header that reads, "The pirates are coming."

The Going Merry plays a major role in the animanga series, as it is the first official ship belonging to Luffy's crew. It was designed by Kaya's butler, Merry, and was gifted to the team after they defended Syrup Village from the Black Cat Pirates. The poster continues to piece together what the series will look like, going hand-in-hand with the recent unveiling of Luffy's straw hat and hand-painted Jolly Roger.

Netflix has a well-documented history of adapting anime classics into live-action. Some of the most notable projects include the 2017 Death Note movie, directed by Adam Wingard, and the 2021 Cowboy Bebop series, led by Christopher Yost and Andre Nemec. Both projects were received poorly by fans and critics. One Piece is not the only adaptation Netflix has in development, as the company is also working on Avatar: The Last Airbender, Yu Yu Hakusho, Mobile Suit Gundam and more.

The One Piece live-action series' release date has not been revealed at the time of writing, but it is slated for 2023 and rumored for August. Fans have already begun questioning the series' quality, with concerns resulting from Netflix's previous anime projects. However, Eiichiro Oda, the property's creator, has announced that the show will not debut until he is personally happy with it.

The One Piece anime is currently adapting the "Wano Country" arc and is available on Crunchyroll. The manga's latest arc -- "Egghead Island" -- is ongoing and available to read on Viz Media with a Shonen Jump subscription.
